Charlottesville, United States UVA McIntire School of Commerce Full time

The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks an accomplished and strategic professional with a leadership record to serve as the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The Chief Administrative Officer reports directly to the Dean of the McIntire School of Commerce, Nicole Thorne Jenkins and is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence, fiscal integrity, and stewardship of resources. As a key advisor to the Dean and an integral member of the School’s leadership team, the Chief Administrative Officer plays a central role in developing and executing the vision and plans for the School.

The CAO works extensively with the Executive Director of the McIntire School Foundation to continue strengthening the School's financial position. The CAO regularly interacts with McIntire faculty, staff, students, University administration, Trustees of the McIntire School Foundation, McIntire School Advisory Board members, and a wide variety of external stakeholders. The Chief Administrative Officer also serves as a visible and proactive member of the University community and on various administrative, finance, and Foundation related committees.

The CAO will join McIntire and the University of Virginia at a time of celebration, opportunity, and shared vision. The Commerce School has undertaken visionary plans for a new academic complex scheduled to open in Spring 2025 designed to foster student success and strengthen community connections. The new Commerce Complex will include the entirely new Shumway Hall, McIntire’s current home of Rouss & Robertson Halls, a reimagined Cobb Hall, and a host of inviting outdoor gathering spaces. The larger Commerce complex will provide the University with student-focused flexible classrooms; a multi-purpose atrium that can hold more than 400 guests; state-of-the-art labs; a café; and a unique point of entry to the Lawn from the revitalized Brandon Avenue corridor.

Now in its second century of innovative business education, the McIntire School of Commerce remains committed to inspiring ethical leadership, creating fearless pathfinders, and graduating dynamic, responsible visionaries who help define and enhance the global marketplace. The School continues to prioritize Commerce for the Common Good, believing that communities flourish when good people, ideas, and differences come together and engage in meaningful exchanges.  McIntire’s highly integrated programs offer unparalleled immersive learning opportunities with industry partners on Grounds in Charlottesville, in Northern Virginia, and in cities across the globe.

The Commerce School is home to a highly regarded undergraduate business program and five one-year graduate programs. Poets&Quants ranks the School’s B.S. in Commerce as #4 in the U.S. (2024) and #1 for student experience. Today, McIntire has more than 200 faculty and staff with over 1,000 students from 46 countries. There are currently 7 Centers of Excellence with new programs recently added, including a Biotechnology Track (M.S. in Commerce) and a Real-Estate minor. McIntire has an extensive global footprint that includes programs in more than 23 countries, 11 faculty-led global courses, and 19 international partner schools.

The Chief Administrative Officer is focused on aligning financial and operational resources in support of the academic and strategic plans of the school. This includes visionary leadership for the offices of budget and finance, information technology and facility operations. The CAO supervises the management of the School’s financial resources, including forecasting, budgeting, risk management, reporting, and compliance. They also supervise current and future operational facilities, including construction and renovation projects. Additionally, the CAO is responsible for ensuring that the School’s technology infrastructure remains first in class, that new technologies are adopted to improve efficiencies, and that data is collected, extracted, and used responsibly in decision-making processes across the School.

The Chief Administrative Officer will design, implement, and execute ongoing improvement for these administrative activities and ensure their alignment with the School’s strategic initiatives. As a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, the CAO will represent the School and the Dean to University and financial leadership. The incumbent will serve as a resource, consultant, and strategic problem solver for area coordinators and other leaders within McIntire. The CAO’s portfolio includes financial management, information technology, and facilities management.
