Position Overview

The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia (UVA) is in search of a distinguished and strategic leader to assume the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Reporting directly to the Dean, this pivotal position is responsible for upholding the highest standards of operational excellence, financial integrity, and resource stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a principal advisor to the Dean and a vital member of the School's leadership team, contributing to the development and execution of the School's vision and strategic plans.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Director of the McIntire School Foundation to enhance the School's financial standing.
  • Engage regularly with faculty, staff, students, University administration, and various external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a proactive representative of the University community on multiple administrative and finance-related committees.

Strategic Initiatives

The CAO will join the McIntire School during a transformative period, as the institution embarks on ambitious plans for a new academic complex aimed at fostering student success and strengthening community ties. This new facility will feature innovative classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and inviting communal spaces.

Core Functions

  • Oversee the alignment of financial and operational resources with the academic and strategic objectives of the School.
  • Provide visionary leadership for budget and finance, information technology, and facility operations.
  • Manage the School's financial resources, including forecasting, budgeting, risk management, and compliance.
  • Ensure the technology infrastructure is cutting-edge and that new technologies are implemented to enhance operational efficiencies.

Qualifications

  • A degree in business, accounting, or a related field, along with a minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in financial and administrative roles within large, complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in financial management, planning, and forecasting.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and manage diverse responsibilities across various functions.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred, with a strong capacity to collaborate effectively with faculty and administrators.
