Job Summary:

This position supports the transportation safety management, compliance processes, and provides recommendations to improve safety strategy, initiatives, & actions company-wide.


Supervisory Responsibilities: None


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide support, direction, and guidance to location leaders
  • Interact with and influence the behavior, performance and knowledge base of the leadership teams and serve in a consulting role by providing support, coaching, and mentoring to enable local leaders to address safety and regulatory issues impacting delivery operations
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding transportation safety, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Ensuring the maintenance and ongoing program design for a robust training / retraining Safety program for drivers
  • Assuring DOT drug/alcohol program is compliant with regulations, in necessary locations
  • Developing and maintaining accident reviews and accountability guidelines in collaboration with vendors & subject matter experts
  • Supporting the leadership teams, mechanics and third party vendors by assuring the maintenance and preventative maintenance program is compliant
  • Educating and overseeing the competency of managers in safety management practices, protocols and procedures, mentoring and accountability
  • Recommend and implement the elements of our Risk Management process impacting fleet and delivery operations, including coordination of reporting, investigation, documentation and management of incidents, including;
  • Assuring proper accountability is delivered for accidents
  • Reviewing reports and ensuring appropriate analytics and metrics are communicated to leadership
  • Analyzing accident data to proactively identify and address any emerging trends and patterns
  • Regularly reviewing & enhancing a comprehensive safety recognition program
  • Updating and overseeing driver training to ensure compliance with Company and DOT training standards for new and experienced drivers
  • Developing material for training of local managers and for managers to conduct training for drivers
  • Establishing a program for new driver training including daily vehicle inspection, safety & compliance, and hands on training & assuring local managers are properly evaluating driver performance on a regular basis to include review of driver performance and analytics, and coaching, proper documentation, and accountability
  • Working with insurers to take advantage of safety training programs utilizing existing and new methods of delivery
  • Update and design routine maintenance audits and inspections of fleet and vendor practices to monitor compliance Conducting DOT compliance audits.
  • Ability and willingness to travel intermittently up to 40% of the time.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to build trust and strong working relationships, effectively create and proofread documents and reports, and communicate to a diverse workforce.
  • Keen attention to detail to identify problems and processes that don’t comply with protocol
  • Critical/logical thinking to identify problems and provide solutions to ensure efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to plan, develop, coordinate resources, prioritize effectively, and maintain competing demands simultaneously with frequent interruptions and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to ethically handle sensitive and confidential information with impartiality and professionalism.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Computer Science, IS, or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of transportation management experience
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated growth in transportation safety, workplace health and safety (WHS), safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • Experience in safety training, conducting safety audits and compliance, and delivery of world-class safety programs and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state motor vehicle safety laws, particularly FMCSR standards
  • Working knowledge of the performance management/ monitoring systems, SmartDrive experience a plus
  • Experience in program management
  • Experience implementing lean principles and regular process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Solid technical knowledge and ability to understand technical designs, challenges, and risks to optimize autonomous vehicles operations.
  • CDL driving experience, a plus
  • Experience working with legal teams to support investigations, disputes and litigation a plus
  • Possess intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to maintain very high proficiency and job standards while working in a non-temperature controlled environment that includes exposure to heat, high humidity, and inclement weather
  • Able to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels
  • Able to use hand trucks, stairs, ramps, and docks.
  • Able to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit, reach with arms and hands, lift and carry, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
  • Able to frequently climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must have specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to judge distance
