Overview:
The Safety and Security Specialist is tasked with ensuring the protection and communication with hotel guests and staff. This role involves patrolling the hotel premises to uphold security, detect, and report any fire, safety, or security hazards, as well as violations of hotel policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize proper radio etiquette consistently.
  • Maintain visual contact with the Front Desk/Night Auditor and the hotel entrance by remaining in the Lobby area when not conducting property walks.
  • Keep and review a daily activity log.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding guest and employee incidents.
  • Conduct briefings with Guest Services staff at the start and end of each shift.
  • Verify the identification of visitors and employees as necessary.
  • Access secured areas for authorized personnel only.
  • Stay informed about the legal limitations of the position (local, state, and federal ordinances).
  • Assist guests to their rooms or facilitate entry into their rooms according to hotel standards.
  • Provide assistance during medical emergencies.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including medical, security, and guest complaints.
  • Investigate reports of assaults.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies as needed to maintain effective communication.
  • Address altercations and conduct investigations.
  • Possess knowledge of hotel and guestroom locking systems.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras, if applicable.
  • Administer First Aid/CPR as required.
  • Challenge suspicious individuals.
  • Identify and report safety hazards.
  • Complete Incident/Accident reports clearly and concisely.
  • Monitor employee entry and exit from the building.
  • Conduct investigations related to property losses, guest and employee accidents, and crimes against the hotel.
  • Document all deliveries accurately.
  • Patrol the area to ensure it is secure and free of unauthorized individuals and disturbances.
  • Provide escorts for individuals carrying money or upon request.
  • Issue and inventory communication devices and keys daily, if applicable.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in a hotel or related field is preferred.
  • Flexibility with long hours may be required.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Capability to stand for the entire shift.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairways and run.
  • Physical capability to deter individuals posing a threat to employees and/or guests.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees and guests in a courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Skill in multitasking and prioritizing departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all interactions with guests and employees in a friendly and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Regular attendance in compliance with hotel standards is required, as per scheduling needs.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
  • Adhere to hotel standards and regulations to promote safe and efficient operations.
  • Maximize productivity efforts, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Effectively handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and resolving issues as necessary.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex information from various sources to meet objectives.
  • Willingness to cross-train in other hotel-related areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
