Organization Overview:

Girls Inc. of Orange County is a private, non-profit agency serving girls kindergarten through college.  We are an affiliate of the Girls Inc. national organization, the nation’s leading voice for girls.  Our programs for girls give equal concern for careers and life planning, health education, leadership and community action, self-reliance and life skills, culture and heritage, academic achievement, participation in sports, and excellence in math, science, and technology. Our programs have proven to be effective in inspiring girls to become Strong, Smart, and Bold.


Purpose of Position:

The Volunteer Services Coordinator is part of a dynamic team that is responsible for recruiting and training new volunteers/academic interns, keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills, keeping volunteers/academic Interns informed, and conveying the Girls Inc. mission to the public. The Volunteer Services Coordinator will represent the Volunteer Services Department and strive to achieve the agency’s mission and goals in partnership with program and development staff.


Duties & Responsibilities:

Recruiting and Training New Volunteers/Academic Interns (60% of time)

·        Execute a comprehensive year-round volunteer/academic internship recruitment strategy to ensure sufficient support for all Girls Inc. programs and agency needs

·        Manage the selection, interview, and screening of all volunteer and academic internship candidates

·        Implement virtual and in-person training components (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) for all volunteers/academic internships

·        Provide supervision, site visits and evaluation of all volunteers and academic internships

·        Track new and active volunteers/academic interns to receive feedback, address issues, grievances, and satisfaction

·        Interface with community groups, corporate partners, prospective organizations to maintain a positive presence within the community

·        Oversee and implement a comprehensive recognition and appreciation program for volunteers/academic internships


Database, Administrative & Communications (40% of time)

·        Serve as liaison between administration, staff, and volunteers/academic internships

·        Consult with development staff and program departments to determine needs for diverse volunteers and academic internship placements

·        Utilize volunteer management software (VolunteerHub), maintain volunteer/academic internship records, and ensure all required documentation, such as backgrounds checks, are completed and kept up to date

·        Utilize on-line portal, Sterling Volunteers, for all volunteer/academic internship background screenings

·        Create and format documents such as reports, charts, flyers, power point presentations,

and graphics consistent with the organization’s brand style guide

·        Market volunteer opportunities via VolunterHub, Girls Inc. social media platforms, public speaking events, corporate/community outreach events, and local university and community college internship recruitment fairs

·        Submit all department reports, evaluations, and year-end volunteer data in a timely and efficient manner

·        Assist with agency-wide meetings, socials, and special events, as needed, along with specific annual corporate engagement initiatives focused on Mentorship, College Readiness, Workforce Development, and Food Drive


Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

·        Minimum two years’ experience managing volunteers/academic interns or delivering community outreach

·        Direct experience in working with adults and youth

·        Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking

·        Excellent organization, time management, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database software

·        Must possess a collaborative, team-oriented work style with the ability to work independently

·        Attention to accuracy and detail

·        Strong understanding of varied stakeholders in the community

·        Experience and success working in partnership with community organizations and corporate partnerships

·        Initiative in identifying needs and creating solutions

·        A commitment to high professional ethical standards in a diverse work environment

·        Must clear background check, have reliable transportation with insurance, and a valid

driver’s license


Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

·        Must be able to stand, sometimes for 2-6 hours, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, talk and hear

Compensation and Benefits:

·        Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

·        Salary range $23-$26/hour

·        Paid holidays, vacation, sick time and birthday holiday

·        Medical insurance (after 60 days of employment)

·        Dental and Vision insurance covered by employer (after 60 days of employment)

·        Retirement plan (after 1 year of employment), employer matches up to 3%

·        Monthly tech and cell phone reimbursement

·        Hybrid schedule, as approved by supervisor
