Responsibilities and Duties
Financial Planning, Analysis, Management and Reporting:
  • Budget Development and Financial Management - develops the annual divisional budget for the state, self-support, and auxiliary funding sources; manages budget allocations and resource distribution; and financial forecasting. Monitors budgets, identify errors and/or discrepancies and communicates information to departments.Strategic Planning and Analysis - assists divisional leadership and staff in the assessment and development of revenues and expenditures, creates financial models and methods to support the division in budget and financial management; advises divisional leadership on the availability of funds to support the university's and division's strategic plans. Represents division on the planning committees.Variance and Compliance Reporting - timely variance reporting on all funding sources along with the ability to provide insights.The Student Affairs budget currently just under $80 million.
Business Operations:  
  • Serves as the primary authoritative resources for the division on routine operational matters, policies, and procedures related to business operations in compliance with federal, state, system and university policies and procedures; communicates appropriate process and policy changes to the division and creates or modifies processes to maintain efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance; supports personnel on procedural guidance to facilitate timely and effective use of resources; solves problems as needed for efficient and effective operations; coordinates between the division and central offices as needed; recommends, documents, and facilitates implementation of divisional process improvements.
Workforce Management:
  • Initiates regular collaboration with the Office of Human Resources and the University Budget Office to support workforce management and the associated compliance requirements (e.g. compensation reviews, performance management processes, position action forms, position descriptions); assists divisional hiring authorities and committees in search and hiring practices including the efficient and effective use of Taleo when establishing employment requisitions, recruitment postings, and search committees; facilitates effective on-boarding and job orientation for leadership positions to division and university policies, procedures and processes; manages positions and advising on all position related matters for accuracy and funding availability.
Managerial / Supervisory:
  • Provides oversight and leadership to operational activities of shared resources on day-to-day operational activities that include: procurement (i.e. purchase requisitions, procurement card), accounts payable, accounting, travel, contingent contracts; preparing annual performance reviews and goal setting.
Oversight of divisional technology issues including supervision of the Divisional IT Coordinator, represents the Division of Student Affairs in enterprise initiatives, and serves as divisional information security liaison.Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Qualifications and Skills
Required:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting or related field.Seven years of progressively responsible experience working with budgets, financial modeling, workforce / position management, operational management, strategic planning and forecasting and senior level reporting.Three years of supervisory experience.Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets and adapt to changes in resources.Strong leadership, supervisory, and consensus-building skills.Ability and experience to identify training and development needs, evaluate workloads and resources.Demonstrated interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse backgrounds.Demonstrated ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.Ability to collect and analyze data, investigate, comprehend and compile financial, budgetary and program data interpreting policies and procedures and apply them to routine/complex/unique situations.Ability to organize and prioritize reports, daily operations, short and long-term projects, and to direct and ensure timeliness and accuracy in the work of others.Flexible to a changing and dynamic work environment.Aiming to provide high level of customer service, transparency of data, and regular communication to divisional leadership and University partners. Demonstrates skills in organizational evaluation with an eye for increasing effectiveness & efficiencies (E&E) for operational improvements.

  • Experience in Higher Education Budgeting.Experience with Cloud based financial software.
