Duties

Serves as a Social Science Research Analyst within the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Office of Research, Evaluation, Forensics and Technology (OREFT), Office of Violence and Victimization Prevention (OVVP). Primary responsibility involves overseeing research and providing research subject matter expertise on violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence. Serves as a technical expert focused on research dealing with violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence. Performs a variety of analytical research, evaluation, program development, and other tasks in furtherance of the violence and victimization portfolio in the Office of Research, Evaluation, Forensics and Technology (OREFT) program. Develops, implements, analyzes, and disseminates a range of extramural and intramural social science research and evaluation projects in furtherance of the OREFT program.

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factor:
Previous or current experience in conducting or overseeing research in the topic areas of violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence .
Basic Entry Requirements :
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position;
-OR-
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field;-
OR-
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include:
Conducts research in the topic areas of violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence. Coordinates and/or provides technical advice about violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence. Develops and/or conducts research design, research data and research data analysis for studies involving violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence., utilizing knowledge of the social and behavioral sciences. Utilizes social science knowledge sufficient to extract significant findings from quantitative and qualitative research, and present findings to senior scientists regarding violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence. Performs a variety of analytical and/or evaluative procedures such as fact-finding and/or task analysis to identify and obtain a variety of information relevant to ongoing actions related to violence against women, victims of crime, or other victimization-related topic areas around interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and/or gender-based violence.
Technical Qualifications:
Applicants who meet the basic entry and minimum qualification requirements, as described above, will be further evaluated on the following technical qualifications:
Ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate studies Knowledge of a scientific field Research Technical Competence

The selectee will be responsible for covering all commuting-related travel expenses. OJP employees are eligible for one transportation benefit - parking or the Department of Justice (DOJ) transit subsidy.
