About the Role

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Science Policy Analyst to join our team in Washington, D.C. As a key member of our Science and Health Policy department, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission to prevent and cure all cancers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support AACR leaders, including the Science Policy and Government Affairs Committee, in developing and implementing science policy initiatives.
  • Monitor, research, and analyze science policy initiatives in AACR priority areas, including federal funding for cancer research and biomedical science.
  • Develop policy statements, compile background information, and attend and summarize policy meetings and events.
  • Support science policy-related committees and provide assistance to the Director, Science and Health Policy, on a wide array of tasks and assignments.
  • Work collaboratively with other AACR staff members to ensure the rapid implementation of research discoveries to improved patient care through a learning health care system and integrated health information technology systems.
  • Draft policy recommendations, policy statements, and white papers for policymakers on Capitol Hill and within federal agencies.
  • Monitor, analyze, and assess federal regulations, legislation, and other government activities as they pertain to AACR priority policy issues.
  • Ensure that AACR advocacy materials are shared and disseminated widely through various venues and means.
Requirements
  • PhD or other advanced degree in a science-related field.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in a public policy environment and general knowledge of the federal policy process.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to scientific and lay audiences.
  • A demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, build evidence-based arguments for policy proposals, and bring conflicting points of view to consensus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of judgment.
  • A self-starter with creativity, initiative, and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
