Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships reports to the President and CEO in support of the Associated Black Charities (ABC) mission. The position works in partnership with the other ABC staff and leaders, community volunteers, and committees to drive growth and success in ABC’s revenue generating campaigns, fundraising, and development initiatives. The Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships will identify, cultivate, and steward partnerships and alliances that will promote growth and awareness of mission-based programming, raise and secure needed funds, and execute the annual work plan and activities that ensure the success of ABC’s initiatives in accordance with policies and procedures. The Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships is analytical, multi-task oriented, uses critical thinking, is self-motivated, and mission and development focused. The Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships will have integrity, high motivation, and be able to produce results in a fast paced and deadline-oriented environment with creativity.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Mission Integration
· Work closely with President and CEO to effectively communicate ABC’s mission, programs, resources, and priorities and ensure its integration into all of ABC’s initiatives.
Development Activities
· Work collaboratively with President and CEO and other assigned staff to develop integrated, mutually beneficial partnerships that support ABC’s strategic plan.
· With President and CEO, continuously monitor status of business targets to ensure a pipeline of opportunities is maintained, prospects converted, and relationships strengthened.
· Individual and Major Donor identification, solicitation, and stewardship.
· Support and secure meetings to establish local, regional, and national partnerships for ABC.
· Develop customized materials (proposals, presentations, reports) that will support the development of corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and cause marketing opportunities.
· Develop, distribute, and maintain development resources to conduct effective prospecting, solicitations, and stewardship.
· Completion of grant applications as assigned, and perform other funding identification, inquiry, and reporting.
· Manage the on-time submission of all LOIs, grant proposals, government applications, and responses to RFPs.
· Timely and professional reporting to and education of the ABC Board of Directors and Development Committee.
Corporate Outreach
· With President and CEO, coordinate strategic plan for corporate outreach and track monthly data.
· Create and present partnership, event, and organizational sponsorship opportunities.
Fundraising & Event Management
· Develop relationships within ABC’s community empowering supporters to tell their impact stories.
· Project management for all of ABC’s fundraising activities and efforts, including the planning and execution of ABC’s Gala, Equity In Action Conference, and The Cookout events which includes the event logistics, event sponsorship and exhibitor solicitation and employee/volunteer assignments.
· Work with President and CEO to ensure revenue goals are achieved by developing, implementing, and assessing strategic fundraising plans for organizational campaigns.
· Focus on revenue drivers (proactive constituent engagement, acquisition, day of event experience, sponsorship, data tracking and assessment).
· Make timely adjustments to fundraising strategies as needed.
· Deliver excellent customer service to all donors (investors), participants, corporate partners, and individuals by understanding their interests, responding promptly to requests and providing consistent year-round communication.
· Support and provide resources and education for member driven fundraising campaigns.
· Manage and execute logistics for day-of organizational fundraising event experience for corporate partners, community members, and supporters.
· Maintain database, records, and files for fundraising events, programs, and activities.
Management
· Direct supervision and support of the Development and Marketing Associate
Volunteer Engagement
· Build a compelling vision for growth and collaboration with volunteer leaders and staff.
· Work with volunteers and committees to identify, recruit, and engage volunteers who have the potential to make a significant impact.
· Work with programming staff to cultivate community ambassadors to support and lead fundraising initiatives.
· Build strong and effective partnerships with volunteers and supporters and help foster a culture of accountability and recognition.
Marketing & Communications
· With support of Outreach and Communications Coordinator ensure communications, website, and social media are up to date; reflect mission, vision, and current messaging of ABC; and are effective tools for donor enlightenment, cultivation, and retention.
Infrastructure, Systems & Strategic Planning
· Coordinate/collaborate with the Operations and Finance team members to ensure proper systems are in place for tracking contracts and partnerships.
· Assist in executing on strategy that will best position ABC and its programs for new & increased funding opportunities by identifying new partners, opportunities, and beginning to build key relationships.
Equity Alliance
· Work with President and CEO to establish, recruit for, and maintain ABC’s Equity Alliance.
· Drive Equity Alliance objectives and ensure active involvement in program/event planning and implementation.
Other Duties As Assigned
Qualifications Required:
· A Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant non-profit work experience.
· Minimum of four years of experience in non-profit fundraising and development.
· Direct management, supervisory, and leadership experience.
· Experience working with C-level executives.
· Successful experience with peer-to-peer fundraising, cause marketing, corporate alliances, and event sponsorships.
· Organizational event execution, and project management skills.
· Experience in recruiting, managing, training, and directing volunteers.
· Ability to write professionally and persuasively.
· Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; communicates clearly and concisely.
· Experience developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
· Strong public speaking skills.
· Demonstrated track record of success managing multiple projects, providing excellence in customer service, building community through marketing, outreach, or communications, and working with donors/volunteers.
· Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.
· Available to work in an in-person office environment and to work evenings and weekends as needed.
· Enthusiasm to work collaboratively at all levels of the organization (both internally & externally).
· A drive to succeed and a willingness to learn.
