The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM) is the dedicated development and alumni relations team supporting the entities that comprise Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), including clinical departments, hospitals, satellite clinics, and the School of Medicine. We contribute to Johns Hopkins Medicine's mission of patient care, research, and education through securing philanthropy, building and maintaining donor and alumni relationships, and supporting institutional priorities. FJHM partners closely with institutional leaders, faculty, and clinicians to engage alumni, patients, donors, and prospects in JHM's work to advance medicine and improve the human condition.
The Associate Director of Development will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of major gift fundraising efforts for the benefit of the Brady Urological Institute's faculty and programmatic priorities. The Associate Director will solicit major gifts ($100,000+), and occasional annual gifts, in support of the Brady from friends, grateful patients, and foundations. This position will serve as the primary development liaison to faculty who direct the Prostate Program, as well as faculty who are involved in the Divisions of Urologic Oncology and Pediatric Urology.
Working with senior development staff members across Johns Hopkins, as well as faculty, administrators, and volunteer leaders, the Associate Director will identify, strategize, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospects. The Associate Director will partner with the Executive Director of Development and Jakurski Family Director of the Brady to strategize, develop, and execute Brady Advisory Board communications, meetings, and activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the research, teaching, and clinical programs and priorities of Johns Hopkins University, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and the Brady Urological Institute, in order to represent these needs both internally and externally.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 - 125 prospects and donors with the goal to personally solicit, or arrange for volunteer or institutional solicitation, for major gifts to fund the priority needs of the Brady and its mission. The focus will be on gifts of $100,000, along with occasional annual fund-level contributions.
- Serve as primary development liaison to a group of 5-7 urology faculty members and their care teams. Hold recurring meetings to encourage faculty participation in development activities; secure faculty referrals and identify and evaluate giving potential of prospects; coordinate faculty participation in prospect solicitations and stewardship. Keep development team current on faculty research initiatives and funding priorities.
- Complete 75 or more substantive touches and 60 or more meaningful prospect and donor visits (in-person or virtually) per year. Performance targets also include benchmarks for funds raised, proposals developed and submitted, among others.
- Organize and direct preparation of proposals, gift agreements, outreach and solicitation letters, and other cultivation and informational material for prospects and donors.
- Manage the activities of the Brady's Advisory Board (BAB), serving as a point of contact for members and emeriti members. In partnership with the Executive Director of Development and Jakurski Family Director of the Brady, facilitate fundraising, cultivation, communication, and engagement strategies for BAB members. Activities may include twice-yearly meetings, webinars, monthly e-communications, and social gatherings. Draft scripts, briefings, and materials for BAB meetings and events.
- Learn and fully utilize all development systems and procedures of the Johns Hopkins University and Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, such as JHAS and PowerBI.
- Represent the Brady and Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine in internal and external committees, cohorts, advisory groups, and other institutional and industry groups as appropriate.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of major development events including meetings, professorship dedications, virtual seminars, and donor recognition events, as needed.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three years related experience, with at least one year of professional experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference given to candidates with experience in university and/or medical settings
- Experience will ideally include personal solicitations of gifts, with a documented record of productivity. Some planned giving experience preferred.
- Demonstrated abilities as a writer and editor
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, along with a team mentality and willingness to collaborate.
- Experience working with broad and diverse groups of constituents such as donors, alumni, patients, faculty, department directors, hospital and university administration, fundraising colleagues and/or institutional leadership preferred.
- Strong computer literacy skills and the aptitude to learn new software.
- High levels of confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact required.
- Willingness to travel and to work occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
