The Strategic Development Leader will lead our institutional giving efforts, working closely with the Individual Giving Officer to develop strategies and implement plans to increase contributed revenue.

Job Overview

We seek an exceptional leader who can strategize, plan, and achieve ambitious goals; build buy-in among staff and board members; coach direct reports; and ensure successful fundraising outcomes. In fiscal year 2024, the development team raised approximately $4.5m, contributing significantly to our $17m budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • In partnership with the Chief of Engagement, develop a comprehensive grants strategy that meets annual financial goals and expands our institutional donor base.
  • Regularly monitor progress against financial and donor engagement targets.
  • Solicit support from board committees and leverage board member enthusiasm to secure new and increased grants.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to plan and execute large-scale fundraising campaigns.
  • Develop relationships between development and programmatic teams to facilitate efficient information sharing and proposal submissions.
  • Embody antiracist leadership attributes, reflecting on existing systems and practices to advance equity goals.
  • Manage the Grant Writer, ensuring high-quality and timely grant submissions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of institutional fundraising activities, making continuous improvements as needed.
  • Oversee the annual grants calendar:
  • Determine responsibility for creating and submitting grant materials (proposals, letters of intent, and reports) for each institution.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality submission of grant materials to align with funder interests and meet requirements.
  • Review and submit materials from the Grant Writer and potential contractors.
  • Write, edit, and submit grant materials as needed.
  • Maintain active relationships with current and prospective funders, including regular outreach and in-person cultivation.
  • Ensure grant compliance with current funders.
  • Maintain accurate donor files and ensure timely gift acknowledgments.

Budget Management & Reporting

  • Manage the institutional giving budget, including monthly reports and reconciliations with finance.
  • Support the Finance Director with annual audit tasks.

  • Experience in budget development, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
Compensation

This role offers a competitive salary of $90,000 and an attractive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision healthcare coverage, retirement contributions, and flexible paid time off policy.
