Patient Coordinator

Location: Onsite in Norfolk, VA

Experience Level: Intermediate

Employment Type: 4 month contract to hire

Salary: $18-19 per hour

Hours: M-F 8:30-5pm

Description:

This person will primary be sitting at the back desk answering phones, handling referrals and scheduling appointments, but they will also work the front as needed.

They will be checking patients in and out

Preparing the schedules for providers assigned to - they will have 1-2 they are responsible for (15-18 patients per day)

Answering phones in between patients - high volume (need to be very good with multi-tasking and attention to detail)

Triaging calls

Referrals coming in- they create tasks for the staff - to call patients and get them scheduled

Working the IDX tasks as well - pre-registration tasks (if they have patients scheduled but there are things missing or insurance is rejected - the system will generate tasks)

Day to Day: checking patients in and out, scheduling appointments for follow up appointments/in office procedures/post op appointments, verifying insurance, check for authorizations in patient files, answering the phone lines, collecting co-pays/payments/balances, scheduling referrals, sending task messages through the EHR, making appointment confirmation calls, registering patients in the system, verifying demographics.

Systems: AllScripts for EMR, IDX for scheduling, and EPIC for connecting with the hospital system.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

1. Medical receptionist / patient registration experience - 1-2 years

2. Allscripts and IDX experience is preferred. If not, EMR experience

3. Health insurance knowledge

4. Great phone etiquette

5. Great customer service

6. Computer skills

7. Being able to communicate with a diverse population
