Position Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President of Health IT and collaborating closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director of IT at Johns Hopkins Hospital serves as the foremost IT authority. This role involves working in partnership with local business, clinical, and academic leaders to formulate and execute strategic initiatives that align with the overarching objectives of the organization, in conjunction with the Johns Hopkins University and Health System Office of Information Technology.

The Executive Director will spearhead IT strategy, infrastructure planning, and management of IT support across both acute care and outpatient environments.

This position acts as the primary liaison for all IT matters at JHH, overseeing both direct and indirect IT infrastructure support. The Executive Director will also lead a dedicated team responsible for the implementation of new technologies and the ongoing maintenance of local IT services.

In collaboration with central IT leaders, this role carries matrixed responsibilities for all local IT functions, including desktop and mobile support, networking, and telephony services. The position will work alongside central IT leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable services and will lead complex, large-scale projects that necessitate multidisciplinary coordination and significant collaboration across operational, clinical, and IT domains.

Key Responsibilities:


As a vital member of the Johns Hopkins Hospital leadership team, the Executive Director will contribute to or lead strategic and tactical planning efforts aimed at achieving organizational objectives. This includes prioritizing initiatives and coordinating the assessment, deployment, and management of current and future technologies.

The Executive Director will effectively communicate and advocate for specific needs within the entity while also relaying central IT initiatives and priorities throughout the organization.

In addition, this role will play a crucial part in enterprise IT initiatives, sharing best practices, evaluating emerging technologies, and leading organization-wide projects that require implementation tailored to the entity, while taking ownership of enterprise-wide systems.

The Executive Director will oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of IT resilience and downtime strategies for the region, including managing downtime drills and associated corrective action plans. This position will serve as the regional lead during IT downtime incidents.

Technology solutions will be developed to proactively address the organization's needs, ensuring they are cost-effective, reliable, and compatible with both existing and emerging technologies. The Executive Director will anticipate changes and remain agile in response to evolving technology requirements.

By understanding the organization's goals, mission, and culture, the Executive Director will assess the impact and effectiveness of technology to ensure alignment with organizational needs. Balancing available personnel and financial resources will be essential to meet both operational and strategic objectives.

Recognizing and addressing significant issues will be a key aspect of this role, as will working with stakeholders and other IT leaders to interpret business needs and make recommendations for strategic investments in technology, applications, and personnel that align with the organization's goals.

The Executive Director will provide guidance for the development of technology-related policies and procedures, representing IT on business-driven policy committees both internally and externally. Ensuring compliance with applicable policies, practices, and regulatory requirements will be a priority.

This role will also involve representing the interests of the organization at industry, state, and federal meetings to advocate for the best interests of Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Managing customer relationships and satisfaction, as well as ensuring adherence to contractual obligations, will be critical. The Executive Director will foster a culture of exceptional customer service and facilitate organizational strategic initiatives to achieve mission and goals.

Maintaining relationships with key technology vendors will be essential, as will having direct responsibility for the design, development, and application of a portfolio of applications at Johns Hopkins Hospital, along with shared responsibility for technical solutions that meet customer needs and are vital to ongoing operations.

Ensuring the continuous delivery of IT support and services through effective management of service level agreements will be a key responsibility. The Executive Director will oversee the development and monitoring of IT budgets across the Hospital, managing both current and projected capital and operating budgets, and initiating corrective actions when necessary.

Providing input for ongoing operations, budgets, and strategic planning will be essential, as will maximizing cost control efforts through continuous evaluation of resource allocations.

Education & Experience:
A Bachelor's Degree in information technology, business, or a related field is required, with an advanced degree preferred. A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in information technology or a related field is necessary, including at least seven years of management experience with significant business impact. Proven experience in leading large-scale, complex projects to support organizational strategic plans is desired.


Skills:

Strong strategic direction and commitment to long-term goals and short-term initiatives are essential. Advanced leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills are needed to effectively manage and motivate staff and resources in alignment with organizational goals. Exemplary customer service skills and the ability to think strategically are critical.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are necessary to interface with various levels of management, including senior leadership and high-level external contacts. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple activities, and respond promptly to numerous requests is crucial.

Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential information is required, along with professionalism in both formal and informal situations, representing Johns Hopkins on state, federal, and industry panels.

Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge and ability to manage large-scale technology infrastructures (greater than 100,000 customers) and execute strategic planning objectives are essential. A deep understanding of technologies within all areas of the Johns Hopkins Medicine organization is required.

Strategic business acumen and comprehension of organizational strategy, along with the ability to design information systems that fulfill that strategy, are necessary. Familiarity with current systems analysis and design methodologies, as well as IT and healthcare operations, is essential.

Experience in assessing a broad range of information solutions and products, along with demonstrated knowledge of leadership, conflict resolution, and change management principles, is required.


Salary Range:
Minimum $[[231,758]] annually
  • Maximum $[[256,422]] annually.
Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
