Position Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President of Health IT and collaborating closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director of IT at Johns Hopkins Hospital serves as the principal IT authority.
  • Acts as the Senior IT Leader for Johns Hopkins Hospital.
  • Works in partnership with local business, clinical, and academic leaders to develop and execute strategic initiatives that align with the overarching objectives of the organization, in coordination with the Johns Hopkins University and Health System Office of Information Technology.
This position is accountable for directing IT strategy, planning for IT infrastructure, and managing IT support across both acute care and outpatient environments.

The Executive Director of IT is the primary liaison for all IT matters at Johns Hopkins Hospital, overseeing both direct and indirect IT infrastructure support, and will lead a local team dedicated to the implementation of new technologies and the ongoing support of local IT operations.

In collaboration with central IT leaders, this role has shared responsibility for all local IT services, including desktop and mobile support, networking, and telecommunication systems.

The position will partner with central IT leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable services. This role will lead large-scale, complex projects that necessitate multidisciplinary coordination and significant collaboration across operational, clinical, and IT domains.

Key Responsibilities:


As a vital member of the Johns Hopkins Hospital leadership team, this role contributes to or spearheads strategic and tactical planning efforts to meet organizational objectives by prioritizing initiatives and coordinating the assessment, deployment, and management of current and future technologies.

Advocates for specific needs of the entity within central IT while also communicating central IT initiatives and priorities to the entity.

Plays a crucial role in enterprise IT initiatives, including sharing best practices, evaluating emerging technologies, leading enterprise-wide projects that require tailored implementation, and taking ownership of enterprise-wide systems.

Responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and execution of IT resilience and downtime strategies for the region; oversees the implementation of downtime drills and associated corrective action plans.

Serves as the regional lead during IT downtime occurrences.
Develops technology solutions that anticipate the organization's needs, ensuring they are cost-effective, reliable, and compatible with both existing and emerging technologies.
Anticipates changes and demonstrates agility in responding to evolving technology requirements.

Based on a comprehensive understanding of organizational goals, mission, and culture, evaluates the impact and effectiveness of technology to ensure alignment with the organization's needs.

Balances available personnel and funding resources to support both operational and strategic objectives. Recognizes significant issues as they arise and takes decisive leadership action.

Collaborates with stakeholders alongside other IT leaders to interpret customer business needs and recommends strategic investments in technology, applications, business processes, personnel, etc., that align with the agreed-upon goals of the organization. Acts as the entity liaison for clinical applications.

Provides guidance in the development of technology-related policies and procedures and represents IT on business-driven policy committees both within and outside of the organization.

Ensures compliance with applicable policies, practices, and regulatory requirements within the area of responsibility. Represents Johns Hopkins Hospital, often with delegated authority, in meetings both internally and externally.

Advocates for the organization's interests at industry, state, and federal meetings to ensure that the best interests are upheld.

Manages customer relationships and satisfaction while ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
Fosters a culture of exceptional customer service.
Facilitates and influences organizational strategic initiatives to achieve mission and organizational goals. Maintains relationships with key technology vendors for the organization.

Has direct responsibility for the design, development, and application of a portfolio of Johns Hopkins Hospital applications, along with shared responsibility for technical solutions that meet customer needs and are essential for the ongoing operations of the organization.

Ensures continuous delivery of IT support and services through direct management of service level agreements.
Oversees the development and monitoring of IT budgets across the Hospital. Manages current and projected capital and operating budgets, including initiating corrective actions when financial performance falls below expectations.
Provides input and is responsible for ongoing operations, budgets, multi-year budget forecasts, and strategic and operational planning.

Ensures maximization of cost control efforts through continuous evaluation of resource allocations; achieves or exceeds hospital financial objectives.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in information technology, business, or a related field is required. An advanced degree is preferred.

Ten or more years of progressive experience in information technology or a related field is required, including seven years of management experience with significant business impact, with proven experience leading large-scale, complex projects to support the organizational strategic plan.


Skills:

Ability to establish strategic direction and commit to long-range goals and short-term initiatives. Advanced leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills are essential for managing and motivating staff and resources in alignment with organizational goals and group processes. Demonstrated exemplary customer service skills and the ability to think strategically. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with various levels of management, including senior leadership and high-level external contacts. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple activities, and respond promptly to numerous requests in a complex, highly collaborative setting.

Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and situations.

Demonstrates professionalism in both formal and informal situations, with the capability to represent the organization at state, federal, and industry panels.Knowledge:

Knowledge and ability to manage and operate large-scale technology infrastructures (greater than 100,000 customers) and execute strategic planning objectives. Advanced conceptual knowledge of technologies across all areas of the organization.

Strategic business acumen and understanding of organizational strategy, with the ability to design information systems that fulfill that strategy.
Familiarity with current systems analysis and design methodologies, as well as IT and healthcare operations.

Experienced in assessing a broad range of information solutions and products. Demonstrated knowledge of leadership, conflict resolution, and change management principles.
Salary Range:
Minimum $[[231,758]] annually
