Position Overview

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (CBM) is a prominent accounting and advisory firm dedicated to serving clients across various sectors, including non-profit organizations, automotive businesses, and real estate ventures. We are currently in search of a committed professional in client accounting and advisory services, possessing a minimum of 4 years of experience in public accounting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the precision and punctuality of monthly financial reports, encompassing account evaluations, financial disclosures, and variance assessments.
  • Support client accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Oversee general accounting systems to maintain records of assets, liabilities, and other financial activities.
  • Investigate, analyze, and document general accounting issues.
  • Manage general ledger tasks, including processing, monitoring, and tracking transactions, as well as preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Administer payroll and related monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.
  • Prepare basic federal corporate returns (C and S), partnership returns, and individual income tax returns.
  • Compile book and tax depreciation schedules, ensuring accurate asset classification.
  • Execute additional accounting and tax responsibilities as required in engagements and as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Contribute to team efforts aimed at achieving optimal client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with various levels of personnel and management, both within and outside the accounting department, to ensure thorough analysis of issues and resolution of accounting matters.
  • Assist in monitoring and validating internal controls and compliance with US GAAP.
  • Provide hands-on support for diverse projects.

  • Demonstrate expertise in the industry.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of other client accounting services personnel.
  • Adopt an entrepreneurial mindset towards client service and foster positive relationships with client personnel.
  • Maintain connections with peers, build a network of business contacts, engage with potential clients, and encourage referrals.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant public accounting, tax, or review experience, or equivalent experience as an accountant with a focus on audits, financial reports, and complex month-end closings.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial and internal controls to support a GAAP-compliant environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • An advanced degree (preferably a law degree or a master's in taxation or finance) is highly desirable.
  • CPA certification is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, CCH Suite) or the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple client engagements and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset.
  • A collaborative team player willing to thrive in a dynamic environment.
