Residential Mortgage Consultant

The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) is responsible for actively seeking new residential mortgage opportunities and promoting Citadel's mortgage offerings to achieve set loan quality and production targets.
In this ongoing sales capacity, the Mortgage Loan Officer consistently identifies, cultivates, and sustains a robust network of business connections that serves as a continual source of referrals for new mortgage lending prospects. This network may include real estate agents, builders, professional and personal contacts, as well as other valuable referral sources, and is further enhanced by the MLO's regular involvement in business development initiatives, community efforts to encourage homeownership, and participation in professional organizations.
The Mortgage Loan Officer addresses customer inquiries and referrals generated from their own connections. The MLO conducts interviews with potential borrowers to evaluate financial and credit information, ascertain customer financing goals, inform customers about product and pricing policies, and gather any additional necessary information. The incumbent must possess the ability to qualify borrowers in accordance with Citadel's underwriting standards, think independently, and advocate for the Citadel brand. The MLO guarantees exceptional customer service by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics while adhering to all Federal and State compliance regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishes and nurtures successful relationships with business referral sources such as realtors, financial advisors, accountants, commercial lenders, insurance agents, title companies, etc.
- Engages with prospective borrowers: Analyzes credit and financial data; identifies borrower financial objectives and goals; presents suitable Citadel products and programs while explaining guidelines; informs about pricing and rate locks as necessary; identifies opportunities to offer additional products; collects required loan documentation and submits a complete package to the Mortgage Loan Processor.
- Utilizes Citadel training resources, reference materials, and other tools to provide accurate and current loan program/policy information to both external clients and internal partners.
- Delivers professional and personalized service to our internal and external members by maintaining courtesy and respect in all interactions.
- Informs first mortgage applicants of necessary documentation such as income and deposit verifications, mortgage statements, etc.
- Monitors the mortgage application process by communicating with processors, underwriters, and closers.
- Participates in purchase loan closings.
- Stays informed about all available mortgage products and underwriting guidelines.
- Possesses a thorough understanding of mortgage lending regulations.
- Inputs loans into Encompass and ensures all applications are properly disclosed within three days of receipt.
- Interprets information in title insurance commitments, appraisals, and credit reports.
- Updates customers on application status and discusses alternative options.
- Calculates Private Mortgage Insurance premiums, prorates taxes, and insurance for escrow accounts.
- Maintains awareness of current trends in mortgage lending and market factors affecting the industry.
- Comprehensive understanding of mortgage lending and the origination process, including knowledge of Fannie Mae, PMI, and Credit Union lending guidelines.
- Experience: Minimum of three years as a loan originator with documented self-sourced annual closed loan volume of $35M.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with mortgage loan origination systems (Encompass) preferred.
- Familiarity with automated underwriting systems such as DU, TOTAL Scorecard, and GUS.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, exceptional customer service, and organizational skills are essential.
