The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) plays a vital role in driving new residential mortgage business while promoting Citadel's mortgage offerings to achieve set quality and production targets.
In this continuous sales position, the Mortgage Loan Officer actively seeks, develops, and nurtures a robust network of professional relationships that serve as a consistent source of referrals for new mortgage lending prospects. This network may include real estate agents, builders, financial advisors, and other key referral sources, further strengthened by the MLO's engagement in business development activities, community initiatives to foster homeownership, and participation in professional organizations.
The Mortgage Loan Officer addresses customer inquiries and referrals generated from their own connections. The MLO conducts comprehensive interviews with potential borrowers to evaluate financial and credit information, identify customer financing goals, inform clients about product and pricing policies, and collect any additional necessary documentation. The incumbent must possess the ability to assess borrower qualifications based on Citadel's underwriting criteria, think independently, and advocate for the Citadel brand. The MLO ensures outstanding customer service by maintaining a thorough understanding of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics while adhering to all Federal and State compliance regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with business referral sources, including realtors, financial planners, CPAs, commercial lenders, insurance agents, and title companies.
- Engage with prospective borrowers: Analyze credit and financial data; identify borrower financial objectives; present suitable Citadel products and programs; explain guidelines; provide pricing and lock rate information as needed; identify opportunities for additional product sales; gather supporting loan documentation and submit a complete package to the Mortgage Loan Processor.
- Utilize Citadel training materials, reference tools, and other resources to deliver accurate and current loan program and policy information to both external clients and internal partners.
- Deliver professional and personalized service to our internal and external members by maintaining courtesy and respect in all interactions.
- Inform mortgage applicants of required documentation, including income and deposit verifications, mortgage statements, etc.
- Monitor the mortgage application process by communicating with processors, underwriters, and closers.
- Participate in purchase loan closings.
- Stay informed about all available mortgage products and underwriting guidelines.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of mortgage lending regulations.
- Input loans into Encompass and ensure all applications are disclosed within three days of receipt.
- Interpret information in title insurance commitments, appraisals, and credit reports.
- Update customers on application status and discuss alternative options.
- Calculate Private Mortgage Insurance premiums, pro-rate taxes, and insurance for escrow accounts.
- Remain knowledgeable about current trends in mortgage lending and market factors influencing the industry.
- Strong understanding of mortgage lending and the origination process, including knowledge of Fannie Mae, PMI, and Credit Union lending guidelines.
- Work Experience: Minimum of three years as a loan originator with a documented self-sourced annual closed loan volume of $35M.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with mortgage loan origination systems (Encompass) preferred.
- Experience with automated underwriting systems such as DU, TOTAL Scorecard, and GUS.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, excellent customer service, and organizational skills are essential.
