Responsibilities:


Assists laboratory personnel by executing supervised tasks and laboratory services; requires moderate oversight to safely conduct patient care and essential functions; employs proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients, either independently or with assistance for safety; acknowledges the receipt of properly labeled, collected, and preserved specimens; accesses and/or confirms receipt of specimens through written or computerized means; inputs lab test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS); prepares specimens through centrifugation or other methods; organizes specimens into additional tubes or containers; labels and distributes specimens to the appropriate laboratory section for analysis or stores them correctly in refrigeration/freezer for future testing or transport to reference laboratories; completes requisitions and/or logs for specimens sent to reference labs; provides collection information for tests sent out; files results from send-out tests; initiates charge documentation for send-out tests; collects blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients; utilizes computer applications for laboratory operations; employs pneumatic tube systems to transport specimens to and from the laboratory; organizes phlebotomy rounds; manages supply inventory and places orders for replacements; maintains a clean, organized, and efficient workspace; assists with clerical tasks in the laboratory as needed; adheres to and enforces all compliance regulations and policies, performing duties ethically in alignment with the organization's values; complies with hospital policies, including confidentiality; engages in ongoing educational activities; communicates effectively and employs appropriate customer service skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare teams both in person and via telephone; accurately interprets laboratory test results over the phone; directs inquiries to the relevant laboratory section; facilitates the flow of information to laboratory users regarding specimen collection protocols, ordering procedures, and general laboratory operations; maintains precise and complete records; keeps files of laboratory requisitions, reports, and quality control data; documents customer complaints, ordering, and registration errors, reporting each to a supervisor for corrective action; accepts and fulfills all duties positively and without conflict; collaborates, assists others, and enhances the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements; employs cost-effective practices in all job aspects; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care across various populations: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric; assists in training new laboratory staff and students, schedules lower-level staff as needed, and manages supply orders and inventory; maintains regular and prompt attendance; works according to the defined schedule and is available for overtime as required; performs related duties as necessary.


Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred. Experience in teaching phlebotomy to healthcare professionals is also preferred.
