Position Summary:

Pre-Award Management:

This role involves the supervision of the creation and submission of sponsored program proposals, including the preparation and refinement of budgets and accompanying narratives, ensuring compliance with all application guidelines under tight deadlines.

Collaborate with faculty to identify potential funding opportunities for their research initiatives, providing guidance on proposal development as necessary. Review submission guidelines from funding agencies to ensure adherence. Utilize various electronic proposal management systems and coordinate with core offices. Work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to develop budgets that accurately reflect personnel costs, project expenditures, and facility expenses.

Ensure all proposals receive the necessary departmental approvals, acting as a liaison with the College of Medicine and other relevant colleges and divisions.


Process award releases in the electronic system, including sub-awards and related projects, center declarations, and effort commitments. Initiate payroll distributions based on budgetary allocations and PI confirmations. Manage post-award modifications for sponsor approval, including adjustments in the electronic system for project changes, budget distributions, monitoring of sub-awards, and other necessary modifications. Assist in the transfer of grants from other institutions for new faculty members. Complete annual space and effort reports, and update monthly PI reports to present to faculty regularly. Provide necessary projections to faculty for effective project management and staffing decisions.

Expected Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Qualifications:
Research Administrator I - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Research Administrator II - Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in grant and contract management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in grant writing, prior research involvement, familiarity with grant processes, negotiation of research contracts, and collaboration with the Internal Review Board (IRB). Strong ability to interpret and apply grant and contract regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Knowledge of relevant university, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to extramural grants and research contracts.
