Grants Management Specialist II

Job Overview:

The Grants Management Specialist II will oversee the pre-award functions for sponsored initiatives in alignment with institutional and funding agency guidelines, while offering policy and procedural guidance to research teams. This role will also facilitate the preparation of reports for federal and funding organizations as required.
  • Delivers pre-award assistance, which encompasses evaluating requests for proposals (RFP) and ensuring compliance with specific requirements and institutional policies; reviews budget proposals for precision and adherence to grant stipulations.
  • Supports the formulation, management, authorization, and submission of proposals to federal, state, and private funding bodies.
  • Analyzes and interprets contracts and award documents to ascertain budgetary details, invoicing timelines, restrictions, and other critical information necessary for the accurate preparation of grant submissions.
  • Provides technical support to Principal Investigators (PIs), administrative personnel in research labs, and others to ensure the efficient collection of necessary information for grant submissions.
  • Collaborates with PIs, administrative staff, and funding agencies to troubleshoot issues and rectify errors in grant preparation.
  • Assists faculty and administrative staff in identifying funding opportunities.
  • Engages with investigators and campus administrators to ensure necessary adjustments or corrections are implemented.


Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree along with two years of experience in grant and contract management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with faculty, staff, and various funding organizations.
  • Ability to serve as a liaison and effectively communicate with professionals from diverse funding sources.
  • Capability to assess and provide technical support in the preparation and submission of proposals, as well as evaluate data related to proposal submissions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to funding agencies, state regulations, and institutional guidelines.
  • Proficient in problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Exemplary professional conduct suitable for a public institution.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks.
  • Familiarity with the structure of University Research Administration is essential. Proficiency in essential office applications, including PeopleSoft, Adobe products, email clients, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with federal sponsors such as NSF, CDMRP, NIH, and others.
  • Familiarity with grant management systems, including eBRAP and Workspace.
  • Understanding of grant-related laws, regulations, and policies (e.g., NIH Grants Policy Statement and Uniform Guidance).
  • Ability to interpret and apply grant and contract guidelines and regulations.
