Job Title: Research Scientist - Alzheimer's Disease Research

Job Summary:

The University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team in the Department of Neuroscience. As a Research Scientist, you will play a critical role in conducting research to determine the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiological development of Alzheimer's disease-type neuropathology in mouse models of amyloid β and tau.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and direct research to determine the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiological development of Alzheimer's disease-type neuropathology in mouse models of amyloid β and tau.
  • Independently determine and develop appropriate methods to allow for rigorous, controlled, and sensitive data collection using a variety of in vivo and in vitro methods.
  • Train and supervise lab staff in the execution of research methods and the subsequent data analysis.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Principal Investigator, lab staff, and collaborators to coordinate projects in an efficient manner.
  • Independently synthesize results into peer-reviewed manuscripts and deliver results at conferences.
  • Aid the Principal Investigator in grant preparation and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory regulations, including ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State, and Federal guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies.

Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in neuroscience or a closely related discipline.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in designing, executing, and interpreting in vivo experiments using surgery techniques.
  • Expertise in the use of high-end microscopes and data quantification.
  • Ability to interpret high-volume data, such as RNAseq, and willingness to expand the applicability of these techniques.
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications and independent funding.
  • Extensive knowledge of data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in coordinating experiments and collaborations between different labs.
  • Ability to direct and train new laboratory members.
  • Supervising and maintaining research data records and inventories.
  • Managing the purchase/budget needs.
  • Preparing manuscripts, progress reports, and grants.
