Senior Systems Performance Specialist

Job Overview:

The Senior Systems Performance Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing system performance through comprehensive engineering support. This position involves the design and implementation of holistic infrastructure, platform, and .NET/digital application monitoring strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the architecture of our systems to pinpoint monitoring deficiencies and troubleshoot problems effectively.
  • Set up and manage tailored dashboards and alerts across various monitoring platforms.
  • Generate custom reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Write scripts for monitoring using PowerShell, Python, and Shell scripting.
  • Establish metrics for both business and technical teams to assess system health.
  • Provide on-call support as necessary.
  • Lead and coordinate performance engineering efforts for medium to large-scale projects.
  • Document expected system performance and operational characteristics.
  • Prepare and collect test data for execution.
  • Design and conduct performance tests, including load, stress, endurance, fail-over, and interoperability assessments.
  • Perform technical analyses of performance test outcomes and production systems, offering recommendations for performance optimization.
  • Define strategies for performance diagnostics and monitoring utilizing Application Performance Management (APM) tools and other diagnostic techniques.
  • Collaborate with developers to integrate performance engineering principles throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Facilitate peer reviews to ensure thoroughness of all testing assets.
  • Resolve performance and stability challenges in testing environments.
  • Lead performance defect assessments.
  • Estimate effort and resource needs for client engagements.
  • Develop structured performance engineering work plans and project timelines.
  • Review architectural designs for potential performance risks.
  • Conduct capacity analyses when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, along with a minimum of 7 years of experience in performance engineering and testing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience managing performance engineering initiatives for applications is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Splunk, Broadcom APM11, and AppDynamics is preferred.
  • Expertise in scripting for monitoring (PowerShell, Python, Shell scripting) is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proficiency in Splunk programming is preferred.
  • Experience with .NET and Java applications, as well as Application Monitoring Tools like AppDynamics or Datadog, is highly valued.
  • Strong performance tuning skills are preferred.
  • Solid understanding of UI, Middleware, and backend databases.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies (preferably SAFe), DevOps, and Test Driven Development is a plus.

Work Environment:

This role operates in a hybrid work model, requiring candidates to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to an Elevance Health location.
