About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Operations Supervisor to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our manufacturing operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of our machine shop personnel, ensuring that all production goals are met, and that our products are of the highest quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and Coordinate Machine Shop Operations: Oversee the daily activities of machine shop personnel, ensuring that all production goals are met and that our products are of the highest quality.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews: Conduct regular performance reviews to assess the performance of machine shop personnel and provide feedback and coaching to improve performance.
  • Establish Workstation Assignments and Employee Training: Establish workstation assignments and provide training to machine shop personnel to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Maintain Machine Shop Schedule Status: Maintain accurate records of machine shop schedule status to ensure that production goals are met and that our products are delivered on time.
  • Provide First-Level Escalation Support: Provide first-level escalation support to employees regarding HR issues, including employee relations, worker's compensation, disciplinary actions, time cards, and PTO requests.
  • Identify Continuous Improvement Opportunities: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement changes to improve process, reduce cycle and setup times, and increase productivity.
  • Maintain Shop Measuring Equipment Calibration Program: Maintain accurate records of shop measuring equipment calibration program to ensure that all equipment is calibrated according to schedule.
  • Maintain All Shop Programs: Maintain all shop programs, including 5S, Lean, Cleaning, and Safety, to ensure that our machine shop is a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Ensure Accurate Machine Shop Staff Data Recording: Ensure that accurate records of machine shop staff data, including clock-in/clock-out activities, are maintained.
  • Provide Continued Training and Skills Development: Provide continued training and skills development for machine shop personnel to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Ensure Start-Up Readiness for Production: Ensure that all machine shop personnel are prepared for production and that all necessary equipment and materials are available.
  • Maintain Machine Shop Organization, Safety, and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe and clean work environment in the machine shop, including organization of workstations and equipment.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing and Provide Job Planning Estimates: Support design for manufacturing and provide job planning estimates to ensure that production goals are met and that our products are delivered on time.
  • Ability to Perform Interviews, Evaluate Talent, and Provide Hiring Recommendations: Ability to perform interviews, evaluate talent, and provide hiring recommendations to ensure that the best candidates are selected for machine shop positions.
  • Safely Work within an Industrial Environment: Safely work within an industrial environment, including wearing personal protective equipment and following safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Our Mission: Passion for our mission to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems.
  • 4 Years Minimum of Management Experience: 4 years minimum of management experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • 7 Years Minimum Experience in Machining Aerospace Components: 7 years minimum experience in machining aerospace components, including experience with nickel-based stainless steel alloys, copper, and titanium.
  • Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis Experience: Experience with root cause and corrective action analysis to identify and resolve problems in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Understand Department KPI's Metrics to Improve Performance: Understand department KPI's metrics to improve performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent Blueprint Reading Skills: Excellent blueprint reading skills, including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers.
  • Must Have a Continuous Improvement Mindset: Must have a continuous improvement mindset and be able to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to improve process, reduce cycle and setup times, and increase productivity.
  • Clear Understanding of Production versus Development Environments: Clear understanding of production versus development environments and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Fluent in the Use of Precision Hand Tools: Fluent in the use of precision hand tools, including hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Familiar with the Use of Personal Computers: Familiar with the use of personal computers, including software applications and operating systems.
  • Self-Motivation and Ability to Prioritize Projects: Self-motivation and ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates and deadlines.
  • Ability to Earn Trust, Maintain Positive and Professional Relationships: Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion and respect.
  • Must Be a U.S. Citizen or National: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience Machining Nickel-Based Stainless Steel Alloys, Copper, Titanium: Experience machining nickel-based stainless steel alloys, copper, and titanium.
  • Tooling and Fixture Design: Experience with tooling and fixture design, including the ability to design and build custom tooling and fixtures.
  • 5S, Lean Manufacturing, or Kaizen Experience: Experience with 5S, Lean Manufacturing, or Kaizen, including the ability to implement and maintain these programs in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM Tools: Knowledge of CAD/CAM tools, including the ability to use software applications to design and program manufacturing processes.
  • Experience Operating Heavy Lifting Equipment: Experience operating heavy lifting equipment, including cranes and forklifts, around flight-critical hardware.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of CMM Programming/Operation: Knowledge and understanding of CMM programming/operation, including the ability to program and operate CMM equipment.
  • Outside Processing Knowledge: Outside processing knowledge, including heat treating, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, and other processes.
  • Experience Machining Tight Tolerance, High-Value Components: Experience machining tight tolerance, high-value components, including experience with precision machining and inspection.
