Key Responsibilities of the Patient Services Coordinator:
  • Welcome patients and visitors with professionalism and compassion, fostering a friendly atmosphere.
  • Accurately collect and input patient demographic and insurance data into electronic health record systems.
  • Confirm insurance coverage and eligibility, ensuring adherence to payer guidelines.
  • Assist patients in comprehending their insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and available payment methods.
  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and tests based on provider availability and patient preferences.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and secure necessary authorizations as mandated by insurance policies.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical staff to address patient inquiries, concerns, and specific needs.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations consistently.
  • Engage in continuous training and professional development to remain updated on healthcare regulations and best practices.

Qualifications for the Patient Services Coordinator:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree is preferred. Previous experience in healthcare administration, patient registration, or a related field is advantageous. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office is essential. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with diverse populations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment is important. Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance plans, and healthcare regulations is preferred.
