With a legacy of over 80 years, Lighthouse is dedicated to providing critical assistance to those in need, focusing on emergency support and sustainable housing solutions. The organization also manages Spero Housing Group, which specializes in affordable housing development, and HandUp, a platform that connects various service agencies with individuals experiencing homelessness.

Role Summary

The Youth Outreach and Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in establishing connections with young individuals aged 10-24 who are facing homelessness or are at risk of it. As a key member of Lighthouse's Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) team, this position is responsible for crafting and executing outreach initiatives aimed at identifying and engaging youth in need of essential services and support. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety of youth and facilitating access to necessary resources, including preventive measures against homelessness.

This position also focuses on creating diverse opportunities for youth empowerment and engagement, fostering community ties, and enhancing youth leadership skills. Responsibilities include coordinating a Youth Advisory Board, organizing events, and promoting awareness of available resources for young people. The role requires significant fieldwork and will be based at designated Lighthouse locations. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

Youth Outreach

  • Deliver street- and event-based services to youth, providing essential items and emergency referrals while building trust through trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches.
  • Conduct mobile outreach in pairs, targeting areas frequented by unaccompanied youth, such as community centers, libraries, and parks.
  • Develop and maintain digital outreach strategies, including social media content creation, to promote Lighthouse's services to youth.
  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance community outreach efforts through participation in local events and resource-sharing initiatives.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning for youth in urgent situations, including those facing human trafficking or domestic violence.
  • Regularly assess outreach strategies and locations to ensure effective service delivery.

Youth Engagement

  • Organize youth-centered activities and events to raise awareness of Lighthouse's mission among at-risk youth.
  • Work closely with RHY Case Managers to connect youth with necessary services and empowerment opportunities.
  • Establish and coordinate a Youth Advisory Board to amplify the voices of young individuals with lived experiences of homelessness.
  • Lead recruitment and engagement efforts for the Youth Advisory Board, facilitating meetings and supporting youth-driven initiatives.

Partnership Development

  • Engage actively within the local Continuum of Care (CoC) to connect unaccompanied youth with essential services.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with organizations frequented by at-risk youth.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to enhance service delivery and training opportunities for those interacting with homeless youth.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain transportation capabilities for clients as needed.
  • Facilitate inter-agency collaborations to improve resource access for clients.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of services and maintain comprehensive case files.
  • Assist with shelter operations and respond to crisis calls as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness or severe poverty.
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in human/social services or youth development.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in human/social services or youth development.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in human/social services or youth development.
  • Understanding of the social services landscape in the local area.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and Positive Youth Development principles.
