The organization also manages Spero Housing Group, which focuses on creating and maintaining high-quality affordable housing, and HandUp, a crowdfunding platform that aids over 100 homeless service agencies nationwide.

Role Summary:

The RHY Residential Specialist is an essential position reporting to the Program Manager, tasked with supporting youth aged under 18 who are experiencing homelessness. This role encompasses working within our residential programs, including Sanctuary, a three-week crisis intervention initiative for youth aged 10-17, and A Step Forward, a transitional living program for youth aged 16-17, allowing stays of up to two years. The Specialist will employ trauma-informed care and a Positive Youth Development approach to deliver direct services to youth and their families. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and supportive shelter environment while guiding youth towards achieving their housing goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily living skills workshops, interpersonal development sessions, meal preparation, and recreational activities.
  • Oversee shift activities among youth mentors, volunteers, and interns to foster engagement.
  • Monitor daily activities in alignment with individualized treatment plans for each youth.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding the performance of interns, volunteers, and peer mentors.
  • Collaborate with the management team to maintain a safe physical environment.
  • Ensure crisis intervention services are available 24/7/365 with appropriate follow-up for each situation.
  • Conduct intake assessments to determine eligibility for agency services and referrals.
  • Facilitate orientations for new youth entering the program, accommodating their educational and special needs.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with best practices and legal regulations.
  • Coordinate transportation for youth to necessary activities and appointments, adhering to legal guidelines.
  • Administer and monitor medications and first aid as required.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling and preparation regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all activities, including intake processes and service logs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain transportation eligibility and provide client transport as needed.
  • Ensure proper management of client files and documentation.
  • Implement service and data collection tools consistently.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality standards, along with all organizational policies.
  • Enforce program rules and uphold agency values to create a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assist with front-desk duties, including answering phones and managing crisis calls.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience, either personal or professional, working with individuals facing homelessness or severe poverty.
  • High School Diploma.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related human/social services role.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including child welfare screenings.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license, with insurance coverage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps.
  • Flexibility and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong multitasking skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or current enrollment in a human services program.
  • 2+ years of experience in human/social services, particularly with youth.
  • Understanding of social issues affecting those in economic distress.
  • Familiarity with the social services landscape in the local area.
  • Experience with HMIS.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with team members.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Training in Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, Housing First, and SPDAT.
  • Proven effectiveness in working with diverse clients and teams.
  • Experience in team management and conflict resolution.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback.
  • High emotional intelligence and integrity.
  • Capacity to thrive in a demanding and constantly evolving environment.
