The organization operates Spero Housing Group, focusing on affordable housing solutions, and HandUp, a crowdfunding platform supporting numerous homeless service agencies nationwide.

Role Summary:

The RHY Residential Specialist is an at-will role reporting to the Program Manager. This position is dedicated to assisting youth under 18 years old who are experiencing homelessness through our co-located residential programs. The Sanctuary program serves youth aged 10-17 for a duration of three weeks, while A Step Forward offers transitional living for ages 16-17, allowing stays of up to two years. The Specialist will employ trauma-informed care principles and a Positive Youth Development framework to deliver direct services to youth and their families. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and upkeep of the shelter environment while supporting youth in achieving their goals for stable housing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate daily living skills workshops, interpersonal skills training, meal preparation, and recreational activities.
  • Oversee shift activities involving youth mentors, volunteers, and interns to engage youth in daily operations.
  • Monitor daily activities in alignment with individualized treatment plans for each youth.
  • Provide feedback to the management team regarding the performance of interns, volunteers, and peer mentors.
  • Collaborate with the management team and facilities department to maintain a safe physical environment.
  • Ensure crisis intervention is available 24/7, with appropriate planning for each situation.
  • Conduct intake interviews to assess and connect youth with agency services and referrals.
  • Deliver orientations to new youth in a manner that respects their educational and special needs.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to meet youth needs while adhering to evidence-based practices and regulations.
  • Coordinate transportation for youth to necessary activities and appointments, following legal and agency guidelines.
  • Administer and monitor medications, first aid, and emergency procedures as required.
  • Maintain compliance with food handling and preparation regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of intake processes, service logs, and daily operational activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Transport clients as needed while maintaining client-related files and records.
  • Implement service and data collection tools consistently.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies, along with all Lighthouse procedures.
  • Enforce program rules and uphold agency values to foster a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assist with front-desk operations and crisis calls as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness or severe poverty.
  • High School Diploma.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related human/social services role.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps.
  • Flexibility and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to multitask effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or current enrollment in a human services program.
  • 2+ years of experience in human/social services, particularly with youth.
  • Understanding of social issues affecting economically unstable individuals.
  • Familiarity with the social services landscape in the local area.
  • Experience with HMIS.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with team members.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Training in Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, and Housing First principles.
  • Proven effectiveness in working with diverse clients and teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High emotional intelligence and integrity.
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding and changing environment.
