Role Summary:

The RHY Residential Specialist is an at-will role reporting to the Program Manager. This position is dedicated to supporting youth under 18 who are experiencing homelessness through our residential programs. Sanctuary offers a 3-week crisis intervention for youth aged 10-17, while A Step Forward provides transitional living for those aged 16-17, allowing stays of up to two years. The specialist will employ trauma-informed care and a Positive Youth Development approach to deliver direct services to youth and their families. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and supportive shelter environment while assisting youth in achieving their housing goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate skill development groups focusing on daily living and interpersonal skills, including meal preparation and recreational activities.
  • Oversee shift activities among youth mentors, volunteers, and interns to engage youth in the program's daily operations.
  • Monitor daily activities in alignment with individualized treatment plans for each youth.
  • Provide feedback on the performance of interns, volunteers, and peer mentors as requested by management.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe physical environment in collaboration with the management team and facilities department.
  • Ensure crisis intervention services are available 24/7/365, with appropriate follow-up for each situation.
  • Conduct intake interviews to assess needs and coordinate access to agency services.
  • Deliver orientation to new youth entering the program, tailored to their educational and special needs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices and legal regulations.
  • Coordinate transportation for youth to necessary activities and appointments, adhering to legal and agency policies.
  • Administer and monitor medications and first aid as required.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling and preparation regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all operational activities, including intake, service logs, and client interactions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain eligibility to transport clients and provide necessary transportation services.
  • Ensure proper management of client files and records.
  • Implement service and data collection tools consistently.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies, along with all organizational procedures.
  • Enforce program rules and uphold agency values to foster a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assist with front-desk operations and respond to crisis calls as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness or severe poverty.
  • High School Diploma.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related human/social services role.
  • Ability to pass comprehensive background checks, including child welfare screenings.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license, with appropriate insurance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to multitask effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or current enrollment in a human services program.
  • 2+ years of experience in a related role, with youth experience preferred.
  • Understanding of social issues affecting individuals experiencing economic instability.
  • Familiarity with the social services landscape in the local area.
  • Experience with HMIS.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with a team.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Training in Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, and Housing First principles.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High emotional intelligence and integrity.
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding and constantly changing environment.
