The organization operates Spero Housing Group, which focuses on developing affordable housing, and HandUp, a crowdfunding platform aiding over 100 homeless service agencies nationwide.

Role Summary:

The Youth Support Services Specialist is an at-will role reporting to the Program Manager. This position is dedicated to assisting youth under 18 who are facing unaccompanied homelessness through our residential programs. The Sanctuary program offers a 3-week crisis intervention for youth aged 10-17, while A Step Forward provides transitional living for youth aged 16-17 for up to two years. The Specialist will employ trauma-informed care and a Positive Youth Development approach to deliver direct services to youth and their families. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and upkeep of the shelter environment while supporting youth in achieving their goals towards stable housing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate daily living skills and interpersonal development sessions, including meal preparation and recreational activities.
  • Oversee shift activities involving youth mentors, volunteers, and interns to engage youth in daily operations.
  • Monitor daily activities in alignment with individualized treatment plans for each youth.
  • Provide feedback on the performance of interns, volunteers, and peer mentors as requested by management.
  • Collaborate with the management team to maintain a safe physical environment.
  • Ensure 24/7 crisis intervention is available, with appropriate planning for each situation.
  • Conduct intake interviews to assess and connect youth with agency services.
  • Deliver orientations to new youth entering the program, tailored to their educational and special needs.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices and legal regulations.
  • Coordinate transportation for youth to necessary activities and appointments.
  • Administer and monitor medications and first aid as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all operational activities and client interactions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Transport clients as needed, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain organized client files and records.
  • Implement service and data collection tools consistently.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies, along with all organizational procedures.
  • Enforce program rules and uphold agency values to foster a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assist with front-desk operations and crisis calls as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness or poverty.
  • High School Diploma.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a human/social services role.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps.
  • Strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to work with diverse populations.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or current enrollment in a human services program.
  • 2+ years of experience in human/social services, particularly with youth.
  • Understanding of the social factors affecting economic instability.
  • Familiarity with the social services landscape in the local area.
  • Experience with HMIS.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with team members.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a commitment to innovation.
  • Training in Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, and Housing First principles.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High emotional intelligence and integrity.
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding and changing environment.
