About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Amazon, working on the Optical Inter-Satellite Link project. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and developing mechanical mechanisms and components for space environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical mechanisms and components, including gears, bearings, lubricants, motors, and gearboxes, for space environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test, to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production.
  • Generate detailed designs with CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables.
  • Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing, and assembly to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved.
  • Document and present materials for technical design reviews.
  • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience with CAD.
  • 3+ years of experience with design and development of hardware at scale (High End Precision Mechanisms desired).
  • 3+ years of experience with development, test, deployment of aerospace systems.
  • Experience with specifying/justifying margins and test sequences, and qualifying space systems.
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in DFM and manufacturing process development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in the design, qualification, volume production of PCBA enclosures for spacecraft.
  • Experience with NX, TeamCenter.
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trade-offs.
  • Experienced with Issue tracking applications (JIRA, TRAC).
  • Strong time and task management skills with consistent attention to detail.
