About Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing global broadband connectivity through a network of 3,236 satellites positioned in low Earth orbit (LEO). The primary objective is to provide fast and affordable internet access to unserved and underserved communities worldwide, thereby bridging the digital divide. This project will cater to a diverse clientele, including individual consumers, businesses, government entities, and organizations in areas lacking reliable internet services.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Electric Propulsion Engineer will serve as a vital member of the Kuiper propulsion team, acting as a subject matter expert in electric propulsion systems.

In this capacity, you will:

  • Provide guidance to test, manufacturing, and mechanical engineers on best practices in electric propulsion.
  • Conduct analyses to support data evaluations, development and verification testing, and root cause investigations.
  • Perform trade studies to enhance propulsion system design and support the development of design modifications from inception through manufacturing and testing to integration in production units.

Export Control Requirement

In compliance with applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or individuals lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum.

A Day in the Life

The Senior Electric Propulsion Engineer will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, serving as the primary resource for electric propulsion expertise. You will engage in all facets of propulsion system development, implementation, and production, ensuring that critical aspects of device operation are thoroughly considered and tested within established constraints. Your contributions will include:

  • Assisting in test planning, execution, and data analysis.
  • Co-authoring test reports and disseminating significant findings.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with electric propulsion technologies through design or testing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Over 3 years of experience in developing electric propulsion technologies through design and testing cycles.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Familiarity with electric circuit design.
  • Experience with finite element analysis for electromagnetic fields and/or fluid dynamics.

Compensation

Our compensation reflects the labor costs across various U.S. geographic markets. The base salary for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by several factors, including market location, and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon offers a comprehensive compensation package that may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
