Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Satellite Thermal Systems Engineer to contribute to the advancement of satellite and ground system components for Project Kuiper. This role involves leading thermal testing initiatives to validate designs, facilitate rapid design iterations, and ensure a seamless transition from design to launch through comprehensive development, qualification, and acceptance testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement thermal cycle and thermal-vacuum testing strategies.
  • Develop data acquisition systems and instrumentation tailored for thermal assessments.
  • Create thermal test fixtures, including power and data harnesses and other necessary interfaces.
  • Engineer heating systems and their corresponding control mechanisms.
  • Determine and select cooling solutions for in-air testing scenarios.
  • Drive automation efforts for high-volume production testing.
  • Engage in design reviews to ensure mechanical designs align with testing and verification requirements.
  • Plan and execute comprehensive test campaigns.

Export Control Requirement

In compliance with applicable export control regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or individuals lawfully admitted to the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or 7+ years of equivalent experience in the design or testing of electrical or mechanical hardware.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, verification, or testing of electronic or mechanical systems.
  • 3+ years of experience in reviewing requirements to support verification and testing processes.
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and reviewing test plans and procedures.
  • 3+ years of experience executing tests at both system and component levels.
  • 3+ years of experience with data acquisition systems for thermal and power applications.
  • 3+ years of experience in automating test execution and interfacing with facility hardware.
  • 3+ years of experience using CAD systems (NX or SolidWorks) for designing test fixtures and creating manufacturing drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience conducting thermal vacuum tests for spacecraft components.
  • Familiarity with NI LabVIEW.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience with testing standards such as SMC-S-016, GSFC-STD-7000, and/or MIL-STD-1540.
  • Experience in implementing thermal testing for high-volume production.

Compensation

Our compensation structure reflects the labor costs across various U.S. geographic markets. The base salary for this position ranges from $105,600 to $185,000, depending on market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base pay, Amazon offers a comprehensive total compensation package that may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
