Overview

The role of the BIM Manager is pivotal in understanding and articulating the impact of Building Information Modeling (BIM) on project workflows, deliverables, and overall project management within EMCOR Government Services. The primary focus is to oversee and coordinate the development, implementation, and adherence to BIM standards across all related projects, files, and models, particularly within the Electrical and Telecommunications divisions. This encompasses creating a comprehensive roadmap for the integration, execution, and quality assurance necessary for full BIM adoption in EMCOR projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement BIM workflows while promoting the standard utilization of BIM and Revit across the organization.
  • Oversee the firm-wide application of BIM/Revit software, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and user support, while troubleshooting BIM-related issues.
  • Deliver training and support to end-users, fostering leadership in BIM practices.
  • Assist project teams by managing and creating content libraries and templates, enforcing standards, and evaluating project models.
  • Facilitate project initiation coordination, aiding teams in devising strategies for the effective delivery of quality documentation and ensuring proper project setup.
  • Review and produce 2D and 3D electrical schematics for field installations, ensuring coordination with other subcontractor trades.
  • Engage in coordination meetings to address conflicts while adhering to budgetary constraints, constructability, and NEC code compliance.
  • Generate shop drawings, cross-sections of underground conduits and cables, and other electrical systems as necessary for guidance to fabrication and installation teams.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans, sections, and elevations.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and project management to resolve issues and clarify drawings for production or construction teams, making adjustments as needed.
  • Travel to various project sites as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety programs.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and telecommunications systems for large-scale construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and ACC/BIM 360.
  • Capability to produce BIM deliverables, including 3D models, 2D installation/prefabrication drawings, and Total Station point layout files, in accordance with VC Standards.
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining positive working relationships.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate for the BIM/VDC Manager position will have previous experience as a Senior BIM Coordinator or possess relevant experience as an engineer, technical designer, or construction manager.

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in modeling, design, drafting, or engineering is necessary.
  • Certification in Revit and/or other Autodesk software is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction blueprints and specifications.
  • Proficiency in 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, and other contractors.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands of this position require the employee to perform essential functions effectively. This includes prolonged sitting, frequent standing, and walking. The employee must also be able to use hands for various tasks and communicate verbally.

Specific vision abilities required include the ability to view computer monitors. The role may involve working in various conditions typical of a construction site, including exposure to inclement weather, dust, chemicals, and equipment noise. Most work will occur in an office environment during standard business hours.
