Job Overview

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is in search of qualified candidates for the role of Communications Officer. This position is integral to the division's external operations, responsible for articulating the narrative of Brown University Athletics through a comprehensive communications strategy. This includes managing game-day coverage, sports information, statistical reporting, web content management, social media oversight, and photography for Brown's 34 varsity teams and associated athletics events.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in sports-related public relations, social media, and/or digital media, demonstrating a progressive approach to social and digital platforms.
  • Proven expertise in creative storytelling.
  • At least two (2) years of proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects.
  • Strong skills in generating social media content, effective interpersonal communication, collaboration, and prioritization of tasks.
  • Experience in managing deadlines and delivering high-quality projects from inception to completion on a daily basis.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to develop strategies and content that align with Brown's policies regarding visual identity, image usage, web hosting, accessibility, and vendor engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal university departments, including the Office of University Communications, for projects requiring input from various stakeholders.

All employees are expected to uphold exemplary ethical standards and comply with NCAA regulations. This position requires adherence to all NCAA and Ivy League rules, with any violations needing to be reported appropriately. Coaching positions necessitate passing the NCAA Coaches Certification Test and maintaining current AED/CPR & First Aid certification.
