Job Summary

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking a highly skilled Communications Officer to join our team. As a key member of our external staff, you will be responsible for managing an integrated athletics and communications program that includes game-day coverage, sports information and statistics, web coordination, social media management, and photography for our 34 varsity teams and related Athletics events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote Brown University Athletics and Recreation.
  • Manage and maintain the university's athletics website, social media accounts, and other digital platforms.
  • Coordinate game-day coverage, including writing press releases, creating game notes, and managing media relations.
  • Provide sports information and statistics to the media, coaches, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Office of University Communications to ensure consistency in messaging and branding.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, coaches, and other stakeholders to promote Brown University Athletics and Recreation.
  • Manage and coordinate photography and videography for Athletics events and teams.
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy to engage with fans, promote events, and share news and updates.
  • Provide support for Athletics events, including game-day operations, event planning, and logistics.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, as well as Ivy League policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in sports-related public relations, social media, and/or digital media.
  • Strong knowledge of creative storytelling and content creation.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  • Experience working in higher education or a similar industry.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, as well as Ivy League policies and procedures.
  • Experience with event planning and logistics.
