Job Summary

The Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Surveyor Party Chief to lead our survey crew in conducting preliminary, control, topographic, construction, and cadastral land surveys. As a first-line supervisor, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, administering, and executing the work of the survey crew, as well as training subordinates to perform land survey duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute survey work, including preliminary, control, topographic, construction, and cadastral land surveys.
  • Supervise and train survey crew members to perform land survey duties, including operation of precision surveying instruments, proper surveying procedures, equipment maintenance, survey calculations, and note keeping.
  • Perform all required supervisor duties, including personnel management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • California Land Surveyor License.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

The position requires working outdoors in various types of terrain and weather conditions, including exposure to dirt, noise, and uneven surfaces. Assignments may involve working at locations with heavy freeway or highway traffic and in off-road areas. The incumbent must be tolerant of working within close range of high-speed traffic and heavy equipment.
