Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of a Senior Transportation Surveyor, the incumbent will work as a first-line supervisor planning, coordinating, administering, and executing the work of a survey crew conducting preliminary, control, topographic, construction, and cadastral land surveys. The incumbent will also train subordinates to perform land survey duties, including operation of precision surveying instruments, proper surveying procedures, equipment maintenance, survey calculations, and note keeping.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and administer the work of a survey crew.
  • Conduct preliminary, control, topographic, construction, and cadastral land surveys.
  • Train subordinates to perform land survey duties.
  • Operate precision surveying instruments.
  • Maintain equipment and perform survey calculations.
  • Keep accurate notes and records.
Working Conditions

The position is located in Alameda County and requires field work, including driving a vehicle to conduct normal work activities in various settings and conditions. The incumbent must be tolerant of working in close range of high-speed traffic and heavy equipment. Field physical requirements include performing strenuous physical activities, such as hiking for long distances, carrying equipment up to 40 pounds, and pushing loads up to 80 pounds.

Requirements
  • California Land Surveyor License.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
