Position Summary

We are looking for a Regional Operations Executive with a proven track record in scaling impactful social enterprises. This pivotal role demands an experienced leader with a background in managing operations across multiple countries. The ideal candidate will play a key role in enhancing operational frameworks and systems throughout East Africa, supporting our impressive annual growth rate of 20%.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Formulate operational strategies that exceed organizational growth expectations, proactively addressing our expansion requirements across eight East and Central African nations with a focus on technology and innovation.
  • Collaborate with regional directors to derive insights that foster cross-departmental efficiencies and agile operational strategies.
  • Oversee annual goal-setting processes to surpass previous benchmarks and assess the effectiveness of Inkomoko's operations.
  • Identify potential operational risks and ensure business continuity through effective planning.
  • Partner with country Managing Directors and Regional Directors on budget formulation, resource distribution, and financial oversight.
  • Establish comprehensive monitoring and evaluation frameworks, collaborating with our data team to develop a technological platform for tracking progress and outcomes.

Systems and Policy Development:

  • Design and implement efficient operational systems, policies, and procedures that seamlessly integrate with our existing technological platforms (e.g., Odoo, Slack, PowerBi Dashboards).
  • Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement to update standard operating procedures and policies, staying informed of industry best practices for operational efficiency.
  • Standardize processes across different countries while allowing for necessary local adjustments.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory standards.

Team Management:

  • Recruit, mentor, and guide Operations Managers in each country to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
  • Develop initiatives aimed at team growth and significant enhancements to align with organizational expansion.

Administrative & Procurement Oversight:

  • Craft and execute a regional procurement strategy that aligns with our social objectives.
  • Oversee all organizational administrative functions, including office management, travel logistics, and administrative systems.
  • Revise standard office checklists and daily management procedures; implement quality assurance measures to ensure uniform standards across all Inkomoko offices.
  • Establish guidelines for support staff roles and responsibilities to ensure adequate support based on team size.
  • Develop procurement policies and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency across all operations, optimizing the supply chain.
  • Encourage sustainable and ethical procurement practices, including responsible sourcing from diverse local suppliers while considering environmental and social impacts.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a history of successfully scaling social enterprises, be adaptable, tech-savvy, and innovative. A strong commitment to fostering a cohesive and inclusive team culture is essential, along with a proactive approach to challenges. Candidates should possess:

  • A Master's degree in Operations Management, MBA, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in operations management within a multi-country context in Africa.
  • Experience in leveraging technology for scaling operations.
  • A proven history of strategic leadership and effective team management, with experience in leading change initiatives and diverse teams.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with proficiency in at least one East African language; bilingualism in English and French is preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • The ability to navigate programmatic and operational complexities, demonstrating sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and making decisions aligned with Inkomoko's values and impact goals.
  • A results-oriented mindset, prioritizing outcomes while valuing process.
