Job Title: Bilingual Support Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Bilingual Support Specialist to join our team at Cook Children's Medical Center. As a Bilingual Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing language support services to patients and families who speak Spanish.

The estimated salary for this position is $40,000 - $50,000 per year, depending on experience.

About the Job

This is a PRN (as-needed) position, which means you will work variable shifts as needed by the medical center. In this role, you will provide support services to patients, families, and staff during designated hours.

You will also be responsible for facilitating acquisition of interpreter services for non-Spanish languages through OPI/over-the-phone, VRI/video remote interpreter, and contract services.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation. You must also be able to maintain confidentiality of records and information, and interact and communicate with people in-person and over the telephone, often in stressful situations.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting with current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Previous interpretation/translation experience preferred.
  • Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patient's native language.
  • Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Children's Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading, and writing tests.
