Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Development Officer to join our team at The Batten Group. As a key member of our leadership team, the Chief Development Officer will be responsible for leading our financial development efforts, including annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment requests, and gifts and capital campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Financial Development Efforts
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive financial development strategy to advance the organization's mission and goals
    • Lead a team of development professionals to achieve financial development goals
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, foundations, and government agencies
  • Strategic Planning and Leadership
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve financial development goals
    • Provide leadership and guidance to the development team to ensure successful execution of financial development efforts
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment and integration of financial development efforts
  • Donor Relations and Stewardship
    • Build and maintain relationships with major donors and prospects
    • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate and solicit major gifts
    • Ensure timely and effective stewardship of donors
  • Grant Writing and Research
    • Research and identify potential grant opportunities
    • Develop and write grant proposals to secure funding
    • Build and maintain relationships with grantmakers
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting
    • Develop and maintain financial reports to track progress towards financial development goals
    • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to inform strategic decisions

Requirements

  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management, public relations, or related field
    • Minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, annual campaign, capital campaign, planned giving, major gifts, moves management, and grant management
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • Proven track record of success in financial development, including securing major gifts and grants
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with ability to build and maintain high-performing teams
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
    • Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations
