About the Role

The Batten Group - Executive Search is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Development Officer to join our client, the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Development Officer will be responsible for leading the financial development efforts of the organization, advancing the mission through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment requests, and gifts and capital campaigns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive financial development strategy to advance the mission of the YMCA.
    • Lead the development team in achieving annual fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Donor Engagement and Stewardship
    • Build and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
    • Develop and implement a donor stewardship plan to ensure timely and effective recognition and appreciation of donors.
  • Grant Writing and Research
    • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from government and private foundations.
    • Develop and submit grant proposals to secure funding for the YMCA's programs and services.
  • Special Events and Fundraising
    • Develop and implement a plan for special events and fundraising campaigns to engage the community and raise funds for the YMCA.
    • Collaborate with the marketing department to develop communication plans to promote the YMCA's mission and programs.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead and manage a team of development professionals to achieve fundraising goals and objectives.
    • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the development team.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management, public relations, or a related field.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, annual campaign, capital campaign, planned giving, major gifts, moves management, and grant management.
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • Proven track record of success in fundraising and financial development.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with donors, stakeholders, and community leaders.
    • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions to drive fundraising results.
