The District of Columbia Bar is seeking a dedicated Legal Secretary to provide essential support to the Hearing Committees, the Board, and the entire staff of the Board on Professional Responsibility (BPR). This role involves welcoming visitors, managing official case files, maintaining the disciplinary system's volunteer database, and offering administrative assistance for various conferences and training programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, revise, and finalize correspondence, reports, and memoranda for the Board and legal staff.
- Assist in organizing the annual Disciplinary Conference, including the preparation of the Conference Book, training manuals, and PowerPoint presentations, while serving as the primary receptionist during events.
- Provide general administrative support, including greeting visitors, managing phone calls, sorting mail, and processing courier requests.
- Handle pleadings for filing, ensuring proper documentation and organization.
- Maintain and update the BPR library and legal research resources.
- Oversee the filing and maintenance of National Lawyer Regulatory Data Bank materials.
- Manage administrative review files and assist in preparations for retiring Board members.
- Support troubleshooting of audio/visual equipment in the courtroom.
- Prepare the courtroom for in-person hearings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant experience in a legal or administrative role.
- Proactive approach with the ability to anticipate the needs of attorneys.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime as required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with Westlaw and other legal research tools.
- Commitment to fostering diversity and an inclusive workplace.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage various priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
This position operates in a hybrid model, combining in-office and remote work. The hybrid status may be subject to change at the discretion of the Bar.
