Department Overview
The professionals within the General Counsel & Ethics, Risk and Compliance division are dedicated to ensuring the provision of safe and dependable services to our clientele. This department collaborates with the Electric Organization to uphold accountability for public safety in relation to PG&E's electric distribution, transmission, and substation systems.
Position Summary
The Principal Public Safety Program Manager is tasked with fostering an effective and efficient public safety risk management initiative associated with electrical assets. This role involves the development and execution of a risk management framework, consulting across various Functional Areas to assess risks and formulate mitigation strategies. The individual will act as an expert liaison between Electric and Enterprise Health & Safety functions, ensuring alignment and mutual understanding of public safety risks. Additionally, the role encompasses preparing reports and analyses for the Functional Areas and the enterprise, as well as responding to regulatory data requests, including the necessary analyses.
This position operates in a hybrid model, requiring work from both a remote office and the designated work location based on business requirements.
Compensation Range
PG&E provides a salary range that reflects the company's good faith belief regarding potential compensation for this position at the time of posting. This range is specific to the job's locality, and actual salary will depend on various factors, including skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
A reasonable salary range is as follows:
Bay Area Minimum: $140,000
Bay Area Maximum: $238,000
California Minimum: $133,000
California Maximum: $226,000
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the comprehensive execution of the Electric Public Safety Awareness Program.
• Collaborate and coordinate with other Functional Areas and Utilities to utilize existing communication processes, activities, and products to disseminate essential Public Awareness Program messages.
• Engage with Electric Operations and Enterprise Health & Safety teams to implement pilot and emerging technology solutions aimed at enhancing Public Safety Programs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in the Electric Public Safety Awareness Program during public safety incidents and provide necessary documentation for litigation matters.
• Conduct safety risk assessments on the Electric System to enhance PG&E's understanding of risks and minimize exposure.
• Coordinate with asset family strategists, regulatory bodies, and risk management to advance risk mitigation strategies.
• Utilize safety and risk information to critically evaluate business decisions.
• Communicate effectively through presentations and discussions with managers and employees across various levels, from engineering and planning to operations.
• Develop and coordinate presentation materials for diverse management levels, including Executives and Board members.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
• Ten years of relevant experience in public safety, quantitative analysis, risk management, engineering, operations, maintenance, or construction of electric systems, including three years of experience in managing, coordinating, and conducting complex business analysis and regulatory proceedings.
Desired:
• Master's Degree in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a risk-related discipline
• Professional Engineer certification
• Cross-functional project management skills, strategic planning, or utility operations experience
• Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
• Experience in data science/analysis
• Certification in risk management, quality engineering, or safety engineering
• Extensive knowledge of risk analysis and assessment
• Familiarity with oil and gas, natural gas, and/or electric operations
• Excellent communication skills for all organizational levels, both verbal and written
• Ability to collaborate across multiple functions and build strong working relationships
• Proficiency in facilitating decision-making processes
• Capability to distill complex issues into easily understandable concepts
• Ability to influence various levels of leadership and work with cross-functional teams
