Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Point of Care and Safety Specialist to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of our Point of Care testing sites, as well as managing our laboratory safety program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Point of Care Testing Management: Oversee the management of Point of Care testing performed at UnityPoint Health Meriter Hospital, ensuring compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Laboratory Safety Program Management: Serve as the Safety Officer for the laboratory, managing the laboratory safety program and ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all Point of Care testing sites are in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and implement quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of Point of Care testing results.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and support to laboratory staff on safety procedures and protocols.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Biological Science.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a moderate-complexity laboratory, with a strong background in safety and compliance.
Preferred Requirements
  • Formal Training: Formal training in hazardous materials safety and/or hazardous waste management.
  • Experience: Experience in a Point of Care or safety role in a moderate to high complexity laboratory.
  • Certification: ASCP or equivalent certification.
