The Director of People and Culture will provide strategic leadership and support to the People and Culture Department, setting the department's vision and strategy, while working collaboratively with their team and internal customers to support the full employee lifecycle from hiring to separation.
Key Responsibilities- Employee Experience and Lifecycle (70%)
- Provide strategic leadership, direction, and high-level oversight of People and Culture systems, including hiring, onboarding, recognition, and retention, professional development, leadership development, succession planning, employee engagement, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, compliance, and payroll for 350 employees.
- Create, maintain, and analyze existing systems and processes; plan and implement improvements that result in greater efficiency, effectiveness, compliance, and improved supervisor and employee experience.
- Identify and implement new initiatives, policies, and systems that support our mission, vision, and values, foster excellence, and innovation, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Identify key performance indicators for the organization's People and Culture functions; assess the department and organizational success, values, and strategic plan alignment based on these metrics.
- Model effective supervision, coaching, and mentoring.
- Leadership, Organizational Excellence, and Innovation (30%)
- Promote a unified Neighborhood House culture that aligns with our mission, vision, and values and elevates equity and a sense of belonging.
- Navigate the P&C team and organization through change.
- Model Neighborhood House values and leadership expectations.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy - promote brand awareness of Neighborhood House within the community; build and nurture relationships with supporters (i.e., donors, volunteers, community partners, vendors).
- BA degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Service Administration, or related field, and a minimum of five to seven years managing the human resources function for a medium-sized (100+ employee) organization; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Subject matter expert, up to date on innovations, risks, and public policy impacting our mission.
- Experience taking a systematic approach to creating the People & Culture team strategy and roadmap aligned with Neighborhood House's strategic plan.
- Proven track record of creating and scaling a foundation of people strategy and expertise in leading teams in creating best-in-class employee engagement, professional development, performance management, and leadership development.
- Connector, coach, and mentor - skilled in developing team members and building relationships across departments and roles.
- Project management with the ability to see the big picture and break it down into digestible milestones, and ability to implement complex projects to their completion.
- Unafraid of addressing challenging situations directly, with compassion, confidentiality, and integrity.
- Thorough understanding of business management, change management, and staff dynamics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, HRIS, and Payroll systems. Previous success assessing organizational needs and optimizing existing and/or leading a transition to/from HRIS/HCM system.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skill with the ability to multi-task and prioritize several competing priorities.
- Track record of success working with employees from diverse backgrounds.
- SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification.
- You have made a personal commitment to racial equity and social justice.
- You are constantly learning and growing professionally, and are willing to try innovative solutions and bring new ideas.

- Must pass Neighborhood House background check requirements.
- Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
- Department of Early Learning portable background check.
- Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
- Current First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.
- Current CPR Certificate within 30 days of hire.
- Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of Fair Credit Report Act (FCRA) Training within 30 days of employment.
