The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, necessitating strong leadership, innovative thinking, and exceptional problem-solving capabilities. A solid understanding of various bearing materials, liner systems, and the wear characteristics of different materials, along with experience in gathering customer insights and defining product specifications based on market demands, are crucial for prospective candidates.

The Senior Product Development Engineer will engage with clients to gain insights and articulate product development strategies while collaborating internally to ensure effective communication and coordination with Business Development, Product Managers, Sales, Operations, and other relevant departments to identify, prioritize, and execute product development projects that align with RBC Bearings' strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

To lead RBC Bearings' product development initiatives aimed at driving business expansion, the following duties will be performed:

  • Enhance performance metrics in areas such as speed-to-market, product cost efficiency, and overall business growth. Establish clear objectives and develop quantifiable metrics to assess progress against these goals.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Product Management teams to formulate and implement a comprehensive new product development strategy that reflects customer requirements and the company's strategic vision.
  • Create detailed project plans for product development initiatives, estimating costs with a focus on delivering products to market swiftly.
  • Oversee product development projects, tracking milestones to ensure timely delivery of new products within budget constraints.
  • Draft and document product specifications to define the scope, application, and performance criteria of the products.
  • Accountable for the design, development, modification, and implementation of innovative products.
  • Conduct research and comparative studies on design alternatives to identify optimal solutions that meet customer needs while aligning with the company's growth objectives.
  • Assist Sales, Business Development, and Product Management teams to provide prompt responses to customer inquiries regarding custom applications, new products, and technical support.
  • Engage with customers to assess their applications and propose solutions utilizing both existing and new product offerings.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering and Business Development teams in preparing labor and material estimates for proposals.
  • Design rigorous testing protocols for product qualification, manage test execution, document results, and recommend design enhancements based on evaluation outcomes.
  • Lead and contribute to the following activities:
    • Conceptualization, planning, design, and execution phases of significant new products or enhancements
    • Risk assessment evaluations
    • Prototyping and testing of conceptual designs
    • Design review processes
    • Verification and validation testing of products
Develop comprehensive product documentation, including materials intended for customer use.
