The Senior Product Development Engineer will engage with clients to gain insights and articulate product development initiatives while collaborating internally to ensure effective coordination and communication with Business Development, Product Managers, Sales, Operations, and other departments to identify, prioritize, and efficiently implement product development strategies that align with RBC Bearings' objectives.
Key Responsibilities
To spearhead RBC Bearings' product development efforts aimed at accelerating business growth, the following duties will be performed:
- Enhance performance metrics in areas such as speed-to-market, product cost, and business expansion. Establish and document objectives and develop measurable indicators to assess performance against these objectives.
- Collaborate with Business Development and Product Management teams to formulate and execute a comprehensive new product development roadmap aligned with customer demands and corporate strategic goals.
- Create detailed project plans for product development initiatives and estimate associated costs, focusing on delivering products to clients promptly.
- Oversee product development projects and track project milestones to ensure timely delivery of new products within budget constraints.
- Develop and document product specifications to define the scope, application, and performance characteristics of the product.
- Accountable for the design, development, modification, and implementation of innovative products.
- Conduct research and comparative studies on design alternatives to identify the optimal solutions and products that fulfill customer requirements while meeting company objectives related to growth and efficient product delivery.
- Assist Sales, Business Development, and Product Management teams to ensure prompt responses to customer inquiries regarding custom applications, new products, and general technical support.
- Engage with clients to assess applications and propose solutions utilizing both existing and new products.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering and Business Development teams in preparing labor and material estimates for proposals.
- Develop rigorous testing protocols for the qualification of new products and manage the execution of these tests. Document and disseminate test results, evaluating outcomes and recommending design modifications for performance enhancements.
- Lead, participate in, and support the following activities:
- Conceptualization, planning, design, and execution phases of significant new products or enhancements
- Risk assessment analysis
- Prototyping and testing of conceptual designs
- Design reviews
- Design verification and product validation testing
Create comprehensive product documentation, including materials intended for customer use.
