Role Overview:

This position plays a crucial role in shaping the future of space exploration. As a member of our committed team, you will be responsible for the design and execution of avionics electronic hardware essential for operating rocket engines in the challenging environment of space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical systems for analog instrumentation that monitor various environmental and combustion parameters of rocket engines.
  • Create electrical designs for actuator circuits, including solenoids and electromechanical servo systems.
  • Interpret and apply systems engineering and quality standards to electrical product development.
  • Develop circuits, boards, and robust electronic hardware assemblies throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to production.
  • Conduct risk assessments, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), and root-cause analysis of discrepancies in testing.
  • Oversee design schedules for avionics subsystems and regularly communicate program status and challenges.
  • Utilize fault tree and fishbone methodologies to identify root cause failure modes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience, including over 5 years in electronics hardware development.
  • Proven technical leadership skills in guiding project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, analysis, testing, and debugging.
  • Expertise in Op-Amp circuits for instrumentation measurements, including scaling and active filters.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, power management, grounding, and board layout principles.
  • Highly organized with excellent technical communication skills.
  • Experience in data anomaly review and troubleshooting in laboratory or testing environments.
  • Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships while promoting an inclusive culture.
  • Passion for Blue Origin's mission of enabling human life in space.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
  • Experience designing electronics for space radiation environments.
  • Expertise in creating high-reliability, safety-critical Class 3 board assemblies.
  • Knowledge of mechanical packaging for avionics in extreme conditions.
  • Familiarity with EMI challenges related to precision analog or high-voltage designs.
  • Proficiency in CAD layout tools for sophisticated printed circuit board design.
  • Experience with safety-critical aerospace flight hardware aligned with DO-254 standards.
  • Experience developing high-reliability, radiation-tolerant flight hardware for extreme space environments.
