Position Summary:
This role is pivotal in shaping the future of space exploration. You will be part of a dedicated team that emphasizes safety and reliability in all aspects of spaceflight. Your contributions will directly influence the development of innovative avionics electronic hardware essential for rocket engine operations in space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electrical systems for analog instrumentation that monitor various environmental and combustion parameters of rocket engines.
- Create actuator circuits for solenoids and electromechanical servo systems.
- Interpret and apply systems engineering and quality standards to electrical product development.
- Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition to design, prototyping, testing, and production release.
- Conduct risk assessments, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), and root-cause analysis of discrepancies in testing.
- Manage schedules for avionics subsystems and regularly present program status updates.
- Utilize fault tree and fishbone methodologies to identify root cause failure modes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience, including over 5 years in electronics hardware development.
- Proven technical leadership in guiding project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, analysis, testing, and debugging.
- Expertise in Op-Amp circuits related to instrumentation measurements, including scaling and active filters.
- Strong understanding of signal integrity, power management, grounding, and board layout principles.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong technical communication abilities.
- Experience in data anomaly review and troubleshooting in laboratory or testing environments.
- Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships while supporting an inclusive culture.
- Passion for the mission of Blue Origin: enabling millions to live and work in space.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
- Experience designing electronics for space radiation environments.
- Expertise in creating high-reliability, safety-critical board assemblies.
- Understanding of mechanical packaging for avionics in challenging environments.
- Knowledge of EMI considerations related to precision analog or high-voltage designs.
- Proficiency in CAD layout tools for sophisticated printed circuit board design.
- Familiarity with safety-critical aerospace flight hardware development aligned with DO-254.
- Experience in developing high-reliability and radiation-tolerant flight hardware for extreme space conditions.
Compensation:
The compensation range for applicants in Washington state is between $136,800 and $182,400.
