Seattle, Washington, United States Blue Origin Full time

At Blue Origin, we aspire to create a future where countless individuals can thrive in space, contributing to the welfare of our planet. Our mission focuses on developing safe, reusable, and cost-effective space vehicles and systems, all within a framework that prioritizes safety, teamwork, and inclusivity. Join our innovative team of engineers and problem solvers as we embark on exciting new ventures in the realm of space exploration.

This position is situated within the Lunar Transportation division. To support Blue Origin's vision of a sustainable human presence in space, we are constructing the necessary infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the Moon.

As a vital member of a dedicated team of engineers and technicians, you will be responsible for designing and constructing the avionics integration laboratories for our Lunar Landers, known as Vehicle Test Beds (VTBs). These facilities will play a crucial role in validating the performance and functionality of the vehicle avionics software, as well as ensuring seamless interaction between various subsystems and other space systems. Additionally, you will develop avionics emulators for NASA and our collaborative partners, focusing on the integration of all vehicle subsystems and external interfaces within the VTB.

Your collaboration with NASA and our National Team Partners will be integral to the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) initiative. Your contributions will significantly influence the development of the Lunar Transportation system, which aims to return humans to the Moon and establish a permanent human presence beyond Earth. This role will directly impact the future of space exploration, requiring your unwavering commitment to safety and excellence in spaceflight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the requirements, design, architecture, procurement, construction, integration, verification, and certification of the VTBs and avionics emulators.
  • Collaborate with vehicle subsystem teams to establish test requirements, integrate their subsystems into the VTB, and finalize subsystem test plans.
  • Identify and acquire necessary equipment, coordinating with technicians for the assembly and installation of systems and harnesses.
  • Facilitate the integration of flight avionics, hardware, operator consoles, testing equipment, and analytical tools essential for verifying the performance of avionics units within the VTB.
  • Assist in the checkout of avionics systems and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Develop and maintain VTB integration and change management plans.
  • Ensure configuration control of VTB hardware and software.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in avionics systems integration and verification.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency with standard electronic laboratory testing equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power meters, data acquisition systems, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of configuration management principles.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or legally admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or asylee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in defining, designing, and/or operating electrical ground support equipment, laboratories, and/or test assets for hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Experience with large-scale verification processes for avionics in autonomous spaceflight systems.
  • Experience in verifying communication and radio systems within integrated laboratories.
  • Familiarity with JAMA and Windchill.
